There Is More to Your Story is a flexible 6-week study of hope from the book of Ruth with free online teaching and daily homework. The story of Ruth isn’t a fairy tale of redemption for one woman thousands of years ago. Ruth is a story of God’s providence to redeem us all—even you. God’s divine intervention is woven through this masterfully told story as we see His hand at work through seemingly small events.

Bobi Ann currently lives with her husband, Jared, their 2 silly kids, Kati Ann (11) and Kie (8), and a cuddly Boston Terrier named Poppy in Round Rock, TX. You can learn more about Bobi Ann and her ministry at bobiann.com.

A lifelong resident of the Jumbo community on the Rusk/Panola County line, Jake Keeling was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 18 months of age. He overcame various physical challenges and graduated from Henderson High School in 2007. Keeling earned a Bachelor of Science in education from East Texas Baptist University in 2011 and a Master of Arts in history at Stephen F. Austin University 2014. From an early age he enjoyed listening to stories from days gone by. With the support of family and friends he also lives out his love for the outdoor lifestyle and horses in particular. These longtime interests- along with a deeply held faith- are woven throughout the fabric of his novel, Horseback Days and Lightning Bug Nights. Keeling says, “The book draws on my own experiences of living with a disability, highlights the unique culture of East Texas, and emphasizes the importance of family relationships across generational lines.”

She has one fiction book entitled Distractions.

Rusty Williams was threatened early in life by a multitude of debilitating health problems, he was not able to attend school on a regular basis until the 4th grade. Basic reading skills, with which most children had become accustomed, had not found their way to his ready use. It wasn’t until his Navy enlistment when he met a fellow sailor suffering the same handicap of dyslexia that he learned to read. He spent months at sea reading his Bible and gaining insights. Rusty has served in the roles of industrial electrician, college instructor, and college administrator. He and his wife LeAnn have two daughters, Laura and Julia. He will feature his book, Beware the Woodpecker, a tale of intrigue, romance, mystery, and comedy woven with twists and turns that take readers on an exciting adventure.

Gae-Lynn Woods is a Texan who has traveled the world, lived overseas, and come back home. She and her husband, British jazz guitarist Martyn Popey, share a ranch in East Texas with a herd of Black Angus cattle, one very cranky donkey, and The Dude, a rescue kitty who now rules the world. When she's not playing the roadie, tending to cows, fixing fence, or digging post holes, Gae-Lynn is working on the next Cass Elliot novel. Titles to be featured at this author event include The Devil of Light, Avengers of Blood, and A Case of Sour Grapes.

The casual event will give you an opportunity to visit with some of your own East Texas authors while hearing about their books. If you’ve ever thought of publishing work, this is a chance to learn about the process. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Panola College honors the Charles C. Matthews Foundation with the naming of the new Collaboration Room. (L to R) Vern Reeder, Robert Underwood, John Conway, Richard Ballenger, and David Bush (Not pictured) Jim Payne

January 18, 2019 - On January 15, 2019, the Charles C. Matthews Foundation Board visited the M.P. Baker Library at Panola College where Dr. Greg Powell, President of Panola College, presented the plaque for the new Charles C. Matthews Collaboration Room. The Collaboration Station recently donated by the Board is located within the room and will be utilized by student study groups and for group projects.

“We are grateful for the continued support from the Charles C. Matthews Foundation Board,” said Dr. Powell. “Their generosity has continued to meet our students’ needs and help them to be successful in their academic careers.”

Two Panola Early College High School students, Samuel Brazzel and Tad Crager, along with Library staff Shay Joines, demonstrated the new collaboration station for the Board.

The M.P. Baker Library at Panola College had more than 45,000 patrons pass through their doors over the past year, and one of the most common requests the Library receives is the need for more study rooms. The Library currently has eight separate study rooms that are in constant use.

Students have an increasing need to come together as a group and work seamlessly on projects and through the donation of a Collaboration Station students can effortlessly connect with those near and far. Students sitting at the lower table will be able to connect to the monitor through their laptops and work simultaneously on a project. The station would be able to comfortably seat 10-12 students with the option to include students virtually as well.

As the working world is becoming increasingly more technological, students are expected to know how to efficiently collaborate on projects with co-workers, customers, and patients through technology once they enter the workplace. This station allows students access to the most current technology to prepare them to work with teams no matter the teammate’s geographic location.

In addition to the collaboration station, the Charles C. Matthews Foundation also donated 15 study pods to increase the number of study locations for the students. While most of the study rooms in the Library have seating for multiple students, the rooms are often in use by a single individual. Students are looking for a more private and focused space to study.

The study pods are private carrels that create havens for students. The surrounding walls give the student their own personal space to study, work on their assignment by laptop, or just generally find a quiet spot to unwind while preparing for their next class. The study pods are also equipped with power outlets for students to utilize putting the students’ worries at bay and giving them a greater ability to focus. The study pods do all of this without the need to build additional rooms. There are 12 single study pods as well as 3 duo pods that allow for small group studying.

“It is fun to watch the students discover the new study pods,” said Library Director, Cristie Ferguson. “The spring semester has just begun, and the study pods are staying full. The new study pods and the collaboration station are wonderful additions to the Library and will be well used.”

The 15 new study pods are located on the first floor of the M.P. Baker Library.

January 17, 2019 - An inability to connect on the defensive end proved to be a game changer for the Fillies, who fell to Tyler College 68-87 Wednesday night in Carthage. Nowakowska contributed 12 points, including a perfect 3-3 from the three-point line. Falkowska contributed 10 of her own, along with 7 rebounds.
