Jonathan Wiley of Houston pulled down 18 rebounds and scored 11 points for Panola College against Bossier Parish Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 3 in the A.J. Johnson Gymnasium.February 5, 2016 - Panola College Women’s and Men’s Basketball Teams are gearing up to face the nation’s number one junior college teams on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when Trinity Valley Community College comes to the A.J. Johnson Gym in Carthage. Tipoff for the women’s game will be 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s matchup at 7:30 p.m.
 
“We are asking everyone to wear white to the game,” said Paul Sabbatini, Panola College Student Activities Coordinator and Student Advisor. “I will also have 100 free T-shirts as well as green rally towels to give away until they are all gone.”
 
At halftime, fans will be invited to participate in on-court games, with prizes donated by Little Caesars Pizza.
 
Trinity Valley Community College men’s team has a 13-0 record in regional play, with an overall record of 23-1. Panola College and Navarro College are tied for second place in the region, both with 9-4 records in region play. Panola’s season record of 18-6 tops Navarro’s 13-10 record. Head Coach Grant McMillan is assisted on his coaching staff by Adam Blaylock and Ricardo Johnson.
 
Trinity Valley Community College’s women’s team has a 13-0 region record, and an overall record of 21-1. Panola College Fillies Basketball has a 2-11 conference record with a season record of 6-15.
 

North Lake was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against Panola on Wednesday, as Panola won 8-7 in Dallas after going up five runs in the fifth inning.

Chandler Morris racked up two RBI's on two hits for Panola. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Eight relief pitchers finished off the game for Panola. Erik Key faced six batters in relief and got the win on the hill for the Ponies, 

Panola jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Panola's threat began with a single by Cal Smith. A single by Logan Bailey then moved Smith from second to third. Colby Price then singled, bringing home Smith and Austin Sojka.

North Lake scored one run in each of the first, second, seventh, eighth, and ninth. 

Panola didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the third inning when it scored on two doubles by Austin Sojka, and Colby Price.

Panola pushed across one run in both the fourth inning and the ninth. In the fourth, Panola scored on a solo home run by Chandler Morris.

Panola College Spring 2016 piled on two more runs in the top of the fifth. The inning got off to a hot start when Chad McKinney singled, scoring Sojka. That was followed up by Morris' single, plating Bailey.

With the win Panola moves to (4-0) on the season and is set to see action again at home this Saturday for a 2 o'clock start vs the TCS Post Grad.

February 4, 2016 - Kia Fisker scored a game high 13 points to lead Panola College to a 72-60 victory over Bossier Parish Community College on Wednesday night. Martinez helped the Fillies clinch the lead for good with a three-pointer in the third quarter.

Panola College fell behind early in the game, going into half time 39-32, but fought back to win the final two quarters.

Fisker recorded her first double double of the season with 13 points 12 rebounds. Fisker led the Fillies, making 43% (3-for-7) of shots attempted while also sinking 64% (9-for-14) of free throws attempted.

Martinez put three three-pointers on the board and scored 11 points total. One other player also added ten or more points for Panola College. R'Trevia Randolph contributed 12 points for the game.  Also chipping in for the Fillies were  Genesis Rivera (9 points & 7 rebounds), Raemeisha Claxton (8 points & 7 rebounds), Amanda Cruz (8 points & 3 assist), Laura Chavez (7 points), Destiney Johnson (3 points) and Denasia Watson (1 point).

The Fillies will be on the road this weekend as they look to take on Paris Junior College on Saturday, February 6th. Tip off is set for 2:00 pm in Paris, TX.

Devyn Wilson with the layup during the second halfFebruary 4, 2016 - Carthage, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team defeated Bossier Parish Community College here Wednesday night, 88-77. With the victory, the Ponies raise their record to 18-6 and 9-4 in region 14 play. “I thought we did a good job responding from out let down over the weekend.” Head Coach Grant McMillan said. “Our sophomores did a tremendous job of contributing and making plays the entire ball game.” He added.

After a back and forth start, Panola gradually pulled away in the first half taking a 42-30 halftime lead. Again, the Ponies used steady offense to increase their lead to 21 points with just over six minutes remaining in the ball game before taking the 11 point victory.

Once again, Terry Holt (Nashville, Tennessee) came off the bench to pace Panola in scoring with 18 points. Holt netted four, three pointers in the contest. Devyn Wilson (Brooklyn, New York) scored all 15 of his points in the second half. Jonathan Wiley (Houston, Texas) finished with a double-double scoring 11 points and chasing down an impressive 18 rebounds. James Suber (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Panola ran down a season-high 60 rebounds and dished out 23 assists.

Panola will continue Region 14 action when the head to Paris Junior College this upcoming Saturday, February 6th. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM in Paris, Texas.

February 1, 2016 - The Panola College Baseball team opened there season on the road in Baton Rouge this past Saturday and Sunday for a 3 game series against BRCC and when the dust settled Panola would leave with the first sweep of the season. Taking game one by the score of 13-8, game two by 6-1, and game three 21-16.

GAME #1

There were 25 hits, including 10 extra base hits in game one. Hector Morales racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Panola. He homered in the third inning and singled in the fourth inning. Baton Rouge couldn't get anything going so long as Lance Ledoux was on the hill. Ledoux held Baton Rouge hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one. Panola never trailed after scoring nine runs in the third on a two-run double by Jordan Gore, a fielder's choice, a three-run home run by Morales, and two singles. Five runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Baton Rouge close its deficit to 10-5. A two-run home run by Laird, a bases loaded walk by Hodges, and a two-run single by Mouton fueled Baton Rouge's comeback. Finally, Colton Brasher got Mauldin to to end the threat. After pushing across one run in the bottom of the seventh, Baton Rouge faced just a 10-6 deficit. A wild pitch set off Baton Rouge rally. But, Jeff Holt got Bailey to strike out to end the inning. Panola piled on two more runs in the top of the ninth. The inning got off to a hot start when Chandler Morris tripled, bringing home Chad McKinney. A two-run ninth inning helped bring Baton Rouge within five. A fielder's choice and an RBI triple by Bailey gave Baton Rouge life. Holt ended the game by getting Hodges to ground out.

GAME #2

Panola College beat BRCC 6-1 in game two of the double header as Austin Sojka led the way collecting three hits.He singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the fourth inning. Tyler Powell shut down BRCC while he was on the hill. BRCC managed just one hit off of Powell, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his 2 1/3 innings of work. Panola went up for good in the first, then scoring 1 more in the second and third inning. Panola built upon its lead with three runs in the fourth. Jansen McCurdy kicked things off with a single, bringing home Chandler Morris. The lone run of the game for Baton Rouge crossed the plate in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Ourso.

GAME #3

Scoreboard operators were busy in game 3 on Sunday as Panola College and Baton Rouge combined for 37 runs, 37 hits, and 17 extra base hits. Panola eventually won the offensive battle 21-16. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to 15 lead changes in the game. Panola pulled out the win thanks to a strong ninth inning. A ground-out by Colby Price scored Austin Sojka and gave Panola the lead for good. Panola hit three home runs in the win, Logan Bailey homered in the fifth inning, Chad McKinney homered in the eighth inning, and Chandler Morris homered in the ninth inning in what proved to be the game winner. Panola easily handled BRCC pitching as seven hitters combined for 20 hits, 18 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Five relief pitchers finished off the game for Panola. Erik Key faced 12 batters in relief, while Rusty Clower managed to record three outs to aid the victory. The bottom of the first saw BRCC take an early lead, 1-0. A double by Laird, bringing home Bailey started the inning off. It didn't take long for BRCC to respond as it scored four runs of its own in the fourth. Baton Rouge scored on a home run by Clostio. Bailey homered, part of a seven-run fifth inning for Panola College Spring 2016. Panola brought home one run in the seventh inning, and matched that run total in the eighth. In the seventh, Panola scored on a ground-out by Sojka, scoring Jansen McCurdy. BRCC answered Panola's top inning with one run of its own in the eighth. BRCC scored on a walk by Hodges. Panola never surrendered the lead after the ninth inning. The runs piled on thanks to grand slam homer run by Chandler Morris.

January 31, 2016 Corsicana, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team fell to Navarro College Saturday Night, 95-86. With the loss, the Ponies drop their record to 17-6 and 8-4 in region 14 play. “We just did not have a good enough defensive effort tonight.” Head Coach Grant McMillan stated. “Our guys made some great plays offensively but giving up 95 points won’t get it done in this league.” He added.

In the first half, Panola found themselves down by double digits with 13 minutes to play but crawled their way back to trailing by three points at the 4:00 minute mark. A late surge by Navarro gave them a 42-35 halftime lead. Navarro went on a 10-3 run to start the half to extend their lead to 14 points. In a second half full of runs, Panola cut the Navarro lead to single digits on multiple occasions but could not get any closer than trailing by six points with 7:14 remaining in the game.

Four Ponies scored in double figures and were led by Tyonte Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 17 points.  Devyn Wilson (Brooklyn, New York) and Terry Holt (Nashville, Tennessee) came off the bench and combined for 31 points. Charles Tucker (Lansing, Michigan) recorded a double-double in the loss tallying 11 points and dishing out 10 assists. Navarro shot 44 percent from the three point line and 52 percent from the field for the game.

Panola will next be in action this upcoming Wednesday, February 3rd when they host Bossier Parish Community College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM at Arthur Johnson Gymnasium on the campus of Panola College.

January 29, 2016 - Piney Woods Camerata, a string instrument chamber group from SFASU that performs without a conductor, will perform Sunday, February 21, 2:30 p.m. in the Frances Ross Ballroom of Panola College Student Center. The group has seventeen members including music faculty and auditioned students. They will play a concert of Baroque music as a benefit for Project String Power, Inc. of Carthage. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted. Enjoy the concert and the reception that follows.

January 28, 2016 - Even though Fillies Laura Chavez scored 20 points, Panola College fell to Tyler Junior College 94-90.

Fillies closed the gap going into the fourth quarter being down two 69-67, but Tyler Junior College kept the lead and got the victory. Both teams were relentless on the court, with Panola College racking up 30 fouls while Tyler Junior College picked up 26.

Chavez paved the way for Panola College, making 67% (2-for-3) of shots attempted while also sinking 100% (15-for-15) of free throws attempted.

Amanda Cruz also reached double digits, scoring 14 points for Panola College (5-for-8), 5 assist and 3 steals. Kia Fisker (16 points) and J'Lene Martinez (10 points) each contributed multiple three-pointers. Also chipping in for the Fillies were R'Trevia Randolph (7 points), Charlynn Perry (6 points), Kabreshia Orange and Genesis Rivera (5 points apiece), Raemeisha Claxton (4 points, 5 rebounds), and Teanna Frances Henderson (3 points).

Fillies will take action again Saturday, January 30th at AJ Gymnasium against San Jacinto-North at 2:00pm.
