October 4, 2016 - The Panola College Center LVN Program application deadline has been extended through October 10, 2016 for the classes starting in January 2017.

October 3, 2016 - Fifth-ranked Panola College began the weekend competing in Day 1 of the Holiday Inn Tyler Junior College Invitational with a sweep of Seward County Community College (25-16, 25-17, 25-17). A trio of freshmen led the Fillies in kills: Jaqueline da Silva (11), Kaitlyn Adams (10), and Barbara Sabino (7). Sophomore libero Morgan Currie anchored the defense with 18 digs, followed by 12 each from sophomore outsides, Victoria Baptista and Ana Oliveira.
Panola then followed immediately with another signature win over #3 Missouri State-West Plains in 4 sets: 22-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-23. It once again took a total team effort to get the win, led by 15 kills from Kaitlyn Adams, followed by 11 from both Jaqueline da Silva and Victoria Baptista, and 7 from Ana Oliveira. Cayman Sutton dished out 30 assists and Kinly Carter contributed 20. Defensively, PC was led by a gutsy performance from Morgan Currie who posted a season-high 25 digs, followed by Oliveira (16) and Baptista (14). Sophomore Rachel Henderson was also a force at the net with 8 block assists and 1 solo.
Saturday the Fillies traveled to Brookhaven College for a tri-match with the host school and Seminole State.
In their first match of the day, Panola took down host Brookhaven (25-19, 25-19, 25-14). Ana Oliveira led offensively with 11 kills on 15 swings, and Rachel Henderson added 9 kills on a blistering .800 hitting percentage. Cayman Sutton dished out 21 assists and Kinly Carter added 18. Defensively, Sutton picked up her season high in digs with 11, while Morgan Currie added 11 of her own.
In a sweep against Seminole State (25-13, 25-13, 26-24), Oliveira and Henderson once again led the way with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Sutton racked up 24 assists and Carter dished out 20. Freshman defensive specialist Camie Copeland picked up her season high with 16 digs and Currie added 10.
Panola is now 20-2 overall and returns to action Wednesday night at Navarro College to begin the second round of conference play.
September 29, 2016 - If you’ve been considering taking a course to earn your Texas Handgun License, Panola College is offering a one-day course on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Cost is $70. Participants must be at least age 21.
Other courses on the October schedule for the Panola College Continuing Education Department include a Digital Photography course that will meet from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday from October 11-22. Cost is $115.
Getting fit before the holiday season will be made easier for people who choose one of several courses at Panola College. Cost for each fitness class is $70. Running October 17 through December 5, students can sign up for four different classes that will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays: Aerial Yoga, Boot Camp, Yoga and an afternoon Spin class. Aerial Yoga will meet from 4-5 p.m., Boot Camp will meet from 5-6 a.m., Yoga is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. to 12:25 p.m., and the afternoon Spin class is set for 5:15-6:30 p.m.
Fitness classes offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 18 through December 6 include a morning Spin class from 5-6 a.m., a lunch-time Spin class that will meet from 12:30-1:45 p.m., and Kickboxing from 5:15-6:15 p.m.
Rounding out October are two additional classes: Learning Lightroom, scheduled for 6-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 25 and 27. Cost is $50. On Friday, Oct. 28, a Beginning Excel class will be offered from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Cost is $60.

September 26, 2016 - Panola College hosted the first of 10 Southern Region Rodeo’s this last weekend September 23-24, at the Panola County Cattleman’s Association Arena. There where over 400 contestants, and over 1000 spectators over the weekend. Panola’s Bailey Plasier and Taylor Gooch won big in the bareback riding and the goat tying as they led the way for the men and women’s teams. The Panola Ponies men’s team ended up in 2nd place, while the women’s team ended up in 3rd place overall.
Panola men started the action off right in the Bareback Riding by winning 1, 3, and 4th in the event. Bailey Plaisier topped the field with a 79 point ride. Bailey, from Manitoba Canada, is a sophomore working for a degree in Ranch and Land management. Travis Chapman, freshman from Spurger, TX, won 3rd place with a 75 point exciting ride. Ethan Andrepont, sophomore from DeRidder, LA., placed 4th with a 73 point ride. Bareback Riding is considered to be the most physically demanding event in rodeo and Panola has an amazing group of young men willing to stand up to the task.
Women’s team member Taylor Gooch, of Hemphill, TX, put on a clinic in the Goat Tying. Taylor tied her very own arena record with a blazing fast time of 6.6 seconds to top the field. Taylor is working on her second degree from Panola College and has big goals of qualifying for the college finals in two events, the Goat Tying and Breakaway Roping
Bull rider Fulton Rutland, of Stillwell, OK, scored an 80 point ride to win 3rd place. Fulton took a bad fall getting of his bull and was taken to the hospital for x-rays. The test where negative for a break, and are still waiting for the final results. Fulton, a CNFR qualifier last year for us and finished 3rd in the nation, is expected to be at the top of this event all season. “I expect Fulton to make a full recovery and to achieve his goal of winning a national title,” stated Coach Jeff Collins.
The Iron Man is back to his old tricks, Caleb Cogbill, a sophomore from Orange, TX, placed 5th in the Steer wrestling event. The typical steer wrestler is 6 foot something and weighs 200 and something. Caleb is 5 foot nothing and 155 pounds and just keeps on coming. Caleb is in his 3rd year at Panola College achieving a degree in Petroleum Technologies. Caleb is a multi-event cowboy who is very beneficial to our team and community.
Logan Cook, a freshman from Alto, TX, won 4th in the team roping by healing a steer in 7.8 seconds. Logan competes in the Calf Roping and the Saddlebronc riding as well. Logan is a very talented cowboy and is expected to be a great asset to the Ponies team. Logan, like Bailey, is working towards a degree in Ag Ranch and Land Management.
The Ponies will be back to action October 7-8, for the SWTJC rodeo in Uvalde, TX.
September 26, 2016 - The 6th-ranked Panola College Volleyball team took down Trinity Valley Community College Saturday afternoon in 4 sets (25-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18) to complete a clean sweep of round one in conference play and improve to 15-2 overall.
The Fillies were led by sophomore outside hitter Ana Oliveira who picked up another double-double on the season with 16 kills and 14 digs. Freshman right side Jaqueline da Silva racked up 13 kills, sophomore middle blocker Rachel Henderson picked up 9 kills, while sophomore outside Victoria Baptista and freshman middle blocker Barbara Sabino added 8 apiece. The freshmen setting duo of Kinly Carter and Cayman Sutton combined for 48 total assists (25) and (23) respectively.
Defensively, sophomore libero Morgan Currie
led the way with 16 digs, Victoria Baptista picked up 9, and freshman defensive specialist Camie Copeland added 6. Barbara Sabino was a dominant force at the net where she assisted on 7 blocks and added 2 more solo blocks.
Panola College returns to action Tuesday night in AJ Gym against Region XIV- South rival, Blinn College. First serve is scheduled for 6pm.
September 22, 2016 - Panola College Rodeo has produced many top hands since it started its program in 2005. Currently there are 4 guys that are ranked in the top of their professions, including:
Jason Thomas, from Benton, AR - ranked #2 in the PRCA World Standing in Steer Wrestling - Jason was a 2 time College National Finalist at the CNFR while at Panola College then won the National Championship in 2011 after transferring to McNeese State University to complete his bachelor degree.
Tilden Hooper, from Carthage, TX - ranked #4 in the Elite Rodeo Association World Standings in bareback riding -- Tilden was a 2 time CNFR Finalist and won the National Championship his freshman year at Panola College in 2007. He is a 5 time NFR qualifier and Rookie of the Year in 2006.
Wyatt Denny, of Minden, NV - ranked #14 in the PRCA World Standings in Bareback - Wyatt was a 2 time qualifier for the CNFR while attending Panola College, then last year after graduating from Panola and transferring to Feather River College to complete his Bachelor's Degree he won the National Championship. In 2015 he won the Rookie of the Year.
Chandler Bownds, Lubbock, TX - ranked #4 in the Elite Rodeo Association in bullriding - Chandler began attended Panola College and was a member of the Rodeo team his freshman year in College and turned pro during that year and has qualified for the NFR 3 times and was Rookie of the Year in 2011.
September 20, 2016 - When the 2016 fall semester began in August at Panola College, the largest class of Medical Assistant students to date was admitted to begin their education. The Medical Assisting (MA) program began in the fall of 2012 with eleven associate degree students and nine certificate students. The program has since grown to 94 students, more than a 400% increase. According to the Department of Labor, “the employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 23% between 2014 and 2024.”
Panola College offers medical assisting students the opportunity to earn either a two semester Administrative Medical Assisting Certificate or a Clinical Associate of Applied Science degree. Students are eligible to take a credentialing exam for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) after earning the certificate or for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) after earning the degree. Medical Assisting graduates of Panola College generally find work in outpatient or ambulatory care facilities, such as physicians’ offices or clinics. September 20, 2016 - That Panola College men's and women's basketball team will be hosting their first annual Fall Coaches Clinic.The clinic will take place this upcoming Saturday, September 24th and will run from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Speakers will present in the newly renovated Arthur Johnson Gymnasium on the campus of Panola College in Carthage, Texas.
Newly hired TCU Head Coach, Jamie Dixon, will headline a guest of speakers which also include, East Texas Baptist University Men's Head Coach, Brandon Curra;, Brownsboro High Coach, Fred Griffin; Panola College Women's Head Coach; Eddie Kite, and Panola College Men's Head Coach Grant McMillan.

September 19, 2016 - The 7th ranked Panola College Fillies continued their winning ways, going undefeated this weekend and taking home three tournament superlatives at the Lee College Invitational. Ana Oliviera was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while Rachel Henderson and Cayman Sutton were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Fillies faced off against 14th ranked San Jacinto College in the first match of the weekend, taking them down in four sets (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21). Freshman right side Jaqueline da Silva led the charge with 13 kills, sophomore outside Ana Oliviera added 11, and sophomore middle blocker Rachel Henderson added 8. Freshman setter Cayman Sutton picked up 23 assists, and Kinly Carter added 20 of her own. Ana Oliviera led the team in digs with 16 and sophomore libero Morgan Currie added 14. Rachel Henderson and freshman right side Kaitlyn Adams were a force at the net, combining for 5 total blocks.
In their second match of the day, PC swept host Lee College (25-18, 25-16, 26-16). Panola once again utilized a balanced offensive attack with 5 players picking up 6 or more kills. Ana Oliveira led with 10, Rachel Henderson added 9, sophomore outside Victoria Baptista and freshman right side Kaitlyn Adams picked up 7 apiece, and freshman middle blocker Barbara Sabino and Jaqueline da Silva combined for 12 kills. Freshman setter Kinly Carter dished out 21 assists and Cayman Sutton added 19. Defensively, Ana Oliviera led with 9 digs while Morgan Currie and Victoria Baptista added 8 apiece.
The Fillies opened Day 2 in Baytown defeating Midland College in 4 (25-21, 25-27, 25-15, 25-23). Ana Oliveira led with 15 kills, Barbara Sabino added 7, and the trio of Victoria Baptista, Kaitlyn Adams, and Rachel Henderson combined for 18 kills recording 6 each. Cayman Sutton and Kinly Carter combined for 45 assists, 25 and 20 respectively. Libero Morgan Currie anchored the defense with 11 digs, Cayman Sutton tallied her season high in digs with 10, and Victoria Baptista added 9.
In their final match of the weekend, Panola took down Victoria College in three sets (25-19, 25-13, 25-7). Offensively, Rachel Henderson led with 12 kills, Kaitlyn Adams added 7, and Ana Oliveira and Barbara Sabino tallied 6 each. Cayman Sutton dished out 22 assists and Kinly Carter added 17. Morgan Currie and freshman defensive specialist Camie Copeland led the defense with 12 digs each.
Panola College Volleyball improves to 14-2 on the year and will return to Region XIV North action Saturday when they travel to TVCC to take on the Lady Cardinals at 2 pm
September 17, 2016 - Panola College is pleased to announce the employment of Mr. Troy Caserta as Vice President of Fiscal Services.
As the College’s newest VP, Caserta’s responsibilities are many and vary from advising the College President on matters of College finance and business management to preparation of the annual operating budget and making recommendations on improvements to the physical plant.
Dr. Greg Powell stated, "We are pleased to have an experienced college Chief Financial Officer join our leadership team. I believe that Mr. Caserta will bring us knowledge and the benefit of having worked in two other states in higher education."
Caserta brings to Panola College more than 12 years of experience working in higher education. Most recently, he spent the past six years at Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe, LA as Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration.
Caserta holds an Associate Degree in Interpreting for the Deaf from Tarrant County College in Ft. Worth. His Bachelor's and Master's degrees are in accounting from Southern Utah University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Caserta’s wife and four daughters are looking forward to relocating to Panola County.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity afforded me and my family. I’m excited to make a positive contribution to the fiscal and physical operations of the College,” stated Caserta. “Panola College is such a wonderful institution. In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve enjoyed observing how close the community is to the College. I look forward to building a life here with my family and serving the College.”
