February 24, 2020 - The Lady Dragons and Dragons Basketball teams will play their playoff games tomorrow night, February 25th in Tenaha.

The Lady Dragons will begin at 6:00 pm vs. Timpson in a Regional Quarterfinal game.

The Dragons will follow 20 minutes after vs Alto.

The Tenaha Tigers and San Augustine Wolves varsity basketball teams found themselves tied at the end of the regular season in District 22 2A and faced off Saturday for a conference tie breaker. The game decided the #2 and #3 seeds for the bi-district round of the 2020 Texas UIL Basketball Playoffs.

The Tigers took the win in a 65-40 game which started out close with the Tigers leading just 14-13 at the end of the first stanza. The game swung the Tigers way during the second frame when THS went on a 14-0 run and led 29-16 midway through the second quarter. By halftime Tenaha had built a 41-18 advantage.

San Augustine outpaced Tenaha 14-13 points in the third period and the score went into the final frame with THS leading 54-32. Tenaha held on and cruised to a 65-40 win.

Tenaha was led by Mike Hogg with 22 points and Hayden Jenkins with 14. Jayden Hicks led San Augustine with 15 points.

The Tigers will next face the Mount Enterprise Wildcats, the third-place team from District 21 2A, at Panola College on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.

San Augustine will play the District 21 2A second-place representative Douglass Indians at a time and date to be announced later.

February 21, 2020 - The Shelbyville Dragon baseball scrimmage for Saturday, February 22 will be at Central/Pollock TX at 11am.

February 19, 2020 - Shelbyville Dragons will play a warm up game on Friday, February 21 at 8:30pm versus Palestine at Tenaha.

February 19, 2020 - The Lady Dragons will play Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Kirbyville High School at 6pm vs Sabine Pass. Admission is $5 Adult and $4 Student. The Lady Dragons are the home team.

The Center Roughrider’s Varsity Basketball Team needed a win to make the playoffs when they faced the visiting Huntington Red Devils. Each team came in to Tuesday’s game with an identical 2-5 District 20 4A win-loss record.

The Roughriders came out hot and they took a 10-0 lead early. Midway through the first quarter it looked as if the ‘Riders may run away with the game. They had a 12-3 lead but Huntington pulled to within 20-13 by the end of the period.

The second quarter saw Center get ahead by eleven points at 26-15. The last four minutes of the first half saw Huntington go on a 10-0 run of their own. Huntington pulled to within 2 points, at 29-27, at the halftime intermission.

Center was able to outscore Huntington 20-17 in the third period and they took a 49-44 lead into the final stanza.

The ‘Riders got help from senior guard Zacc Smith with 11 points during the fourth quarter. Center won 68-60. The Roughriders finished the season. With a 3-5 District 20 4A record they are the fourth-place representative of their conference. Center will next face the winner of District 19 in the UIL Playoffs which will begin February 24, 2020.

Leading the Roughriders scoring was Jumarcus McCollister with 17 points, Makel Johnson added 16, Jamarrion Evans 15, Zacc Smith 14 and Malik Patton chipped in six points for the ‘Riders.

Huntington was led by Ian Taylor who scored 13 points.

Rusk Eagles Gymnasium, Monday, February 17, 2020 –

The Center Lady Roughriders Varsity Basketball team faced a tall task as they competed against the Fairfield Lady Eagles at Rusk High School on Monday. The two teams competed in a Class 4A bi-district elimination game with Fairfield being the District Champion of District 19, with a 29-4 overall record and 7-1 conference mark. Center came into the contest with a 10-10 record and they were the fourth-place representative of District 20, with a 4-4 district win-loss record.

The game was close early as the Lady Eagles only led 9-6 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter but, catastrophe struck for the Lady ‘Riders as four steals in the final minutes of the period, which all led to scores, gave Fairfield a 17-6 lead going into the second quarter.

Fairfield outpaced Center 22-7 points in the second stanza and this gave them a 39-13 advantage over CHS at halftime. The Lady Eagles were able to swell their lead to thirty points at 53-23 by the end of the third stanza. They eventually went on to take the win by a 73-34 score to move on in the UIL Texas Girl’s Basketball Playoffs.

Leading Fairfields offense was Braden Bossier with 20 points. Center’s Ja’Kayla Parks was high-scorer for the Lady ‘Riders with 15 points.

Center Lady Roughrider’s Head Coach Doug Boone and his staff have a lot to look forward to next year as they should be returning all but one member on this year’s playoff team. While senior guard Jakayla Weathered will be missed Center has much talent to build upon.

Next Fairfield will face the winner of Tuesday’s playoff between the third-place Hillsboro High School Lady Eagles from District 17 and the third-place District 18 Robinson Lady Rockets.

Joaquin Rams Gymnasium. February 14, 2020 –

The Joaquin Rams varsity basketball team won their final home game, by an 40-27 score, over the Martinsville Pirates on Friday. The Rams blew open a game that saw them lead only 25-21 at halftime by holding the Pirates scoreless in the third quarter while JHS went on a 12-0 run.

The third period saw Joaquin lead 35-21 and a Lorenzo Boogie Lane bucket at the start of the final stanza gave JHS a 37-21 advantage before MHS scored their first points of the second half.

Martinsville was able to outpace the Rams in the final period by a narrow 6-5 margin but this proved to be too-little-too-late.

The Rams were led by Lorenzo Lane with 13 points. The win boosted the Rams season record to 4-16.

The Rams will travel to Timpson for their final road game at Bear’s Gymnasium next Tuesday, February 18, 2020. Junior varsity will begin at 5 p.m. with varsity boy’s action to follow.

February 14, 2020 - Center ISD announces all events have been cancelled for tomorrow, February 15th due to field conditions.

February 13, 2020 - Tenaha Basketball games for Friday, February 14th are the JVB/VB will play in Garrison at 6pm and the VG will play in Timpson at 6pm.
