February 13, 2015 - The Center High School Boys and Girls Powerlifting teams traveled to the Huntington Invitational and continued on their journey to success with the boys team placing first overall and the girls placing 3rd overall. Individual results were as follows:

February 12, 2015 - On Saturday, February 7th, the Shelby County Junior Bass Anglers fished their second SETX High School Fishing Association tournament. 376 teams fished the tournament. The top 10 teams are secured a spot with an Elite Pro fisherman in a B.A.S.S. tournament that will be held on March 28th.

Center High School Senior Jared Wiggins and Junior, Brett Clark, placed 7th overall which qualifies them to compete in the B.A.S.S. tournament with a professional fisherman. Also competing for CHS were Freshmen, Brenden Stanley and Colman Davis who placed 12th. All these teams won scholarship money.

February 10, 2015 - The Center High School Varsity Tennis teams traveled to Jacksonville on February 6th.

The Boys team finished 2nd overall out of 11 teams, and the girls finished 6th. Leading them were Seniors, Adam Reeves and Alec Lucas who placed first in Boys Doubles A. Seniors, Chris Dunn and Kamden Lucas placed first in Boys Doubles B. In Singles, Sophomore, Zack Fausett made it to the Quarterfinals for Boys Singles A, and Sophomore, Nate Morris took top spot in the Consolation bracket for Boys Singles B. In Mixed Doubles, Junior, Dustin Bennett and his partner, Senior, Sheridan Cassell placed 3rd.

Girls Doubles pair Senior, Rylee Hudspeth and Junior, Malory Nehring made it to the consolation final but came up short of the victory. Girls Doubles B partners, Sophomore Lexi Parker and Freshmen, Emma Locke won the consolation bracket. In Girls Singles A, Sophomore, Whitlee Reed had to play CHS teammate, Junior, Allison Langford to win the consolation bracket. In Girls Singles B, Megan Dunn, Freshmen also had to play teammate, Mackenzie Dykes. Megan won the consolation bracket and Mackenzie placed 4th.

The Varsity Tennis team will play Kilgore on Friday, February 13th and the JV will take on Kilgore on February 17th.

Timpson High School Bass Club

Februaey 10, 2015 - This past Saturday the Shelby County Jr. Bass Anglers fished their second Southeast Texas tournament. Three hundred and seventy six teams participated in the tournament. Two out of the three teams from Timpson placed in the top 30!

Chandler Burgay and James Marshall placed 15th and Holly Hughes and Molly Sanford placed 27th! Two other teams from SCJrBA placed in the top 15! All of these teams won scholarship money and remain in the hunt for a Regional championship berth. Students must finish in the top 10 in the overall point standings by the end of the tournament season in May.

Currently Holly and Molly are 14th overall and Chandler and James are 21st! Timpson High School Bass Club sponsor Tracy Rucker said he could not be more proud of these students!

February 10, 2015 - The junior high 22-2A basketball district recently came to an end for many area teams. Joaquin had three teams finish with top honors. The 8th grade boys finished their outstanding season with a district record of 9-1 earning the title of District Champions. The 7th grade girls also finished the district race with a record of 9-1 taking the title of district champs. The 7th grade boys completed district with a 9-1 record earning them top honors also.

 

February 8, 2015 - Shelbyville Dragon Powerlifting team competed among 53 lifters in Diboll at an invitational meet on February 5, 2015. The Dragon Powerlifters coached by Michael Bill Taylor placed as follows:

    Christian Schilder placed 2nd with a total score of 590 in the 114 weight class. Schilder's points were 220 squat, 115 bench press, and 255 dead lift.
    Wesley Berry placed 2nd with a total score of 665 in the 132 weight class. Berry squated 280, bench pressed 135, and dead lifted 250.
    Andrew Lindsey placed 2nd with a total score of 1,035 in Super Heavyweight (SHW) class. Lindsey squated 400, bench pressed 205, and dead lifted 430.
    Corey Bearden placed 3rd with a total score of 915 in 148 weight class. Bearden squatted 360, bench pressed 135, and dead lifted 420.
    Jacob Jackson placed 3rd with a total score of 1,010 in 181 weight class. Jackson squatted 365, bench pressed 255, and dead lifted 390.
    Logan Jefferson placed 3rd with a total score of 910 in the 198 weight class. Jefferson squated 330, bench pressed 205, and dead lifted 375.
    SyDarius Evans placed 3rd with a total score of 700 in the 220 weight class. Evans squated 260, bench pressed 170, and dead lifted 270.
    Kawon McCowin placed 3rd with a total score of 950 in the 242 weight class. McCowin squated 380, bench pressed 205, and dead lifted 365.
    Octavian Burrell place 4th with a total score of 575 in the 198 weight class. Burrell squated 135, bench pressed 305, and dead lifted 135.
    Trenton Roland placed 5th with a total score of 720 in the 148 weight class. Roland squated 280, bench pressed 135, and dead lifted 305.
    David Amburn placed 5th with a total score of 870 in the 181 weight class. Amburn squated 330, bench pressed 175, and dead lifted 365.

February 3, 2015 - Josh Burns signed with UT Tyler at the Center High School Library on Friday, January 30, 2015 with a large number of family and friends in attendance.

Burns was seated at a table with Roughrider coaches as he signed with UT Tyler to play baseball with the UT Tyler Patriots.

Burns spoke and extended his appreciation to all who attended, "I'd just like to thank everyone for coming, it means a lot to me. All of y'all made a big impact in my life. I'm just glad you're here to support this moment with me. I'd like to thank my whole family for coming here and being with me at this moment and everyone else."

February 3, 2015 - The Center Roughrider Boys Varsity Soccer team played in the New Summerfield tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 29th-31st. Breezing through the first day of competition, the Riders advanced to the championship game against Tatum. The Riders claimed the victory and First Place 9-1 over the Eagles.
