June 4, 2020 - Summer strength and conditioning will begin June 8 and run through July 24, 2020.
Work out is from 9am till 11am; Monday through Thursday from June 8 through July 2.
No camp the week of July 5 to July 12.
Camp will resume Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23.
No camp, but facilities are open the week of July 27 to July 30.
Sessions each day will consist of 60 minutes of strength and conditioning followed by 60 minutes of sport specific activity. (Ex. Football, Volleyball, Basketball, etc.)
This camp is open to all incoming 7-12 graders enrolled at Shelbyville ISD. Junior High athletes are encouraged to take part in all activities.

May 20, 2020 - National Director Jason Mitchell presented Tyler Herndon from Center, Texas, a plaque for earning a Dixie Youth National Scholarship for $2,000. Tyler was one of 100 to receive a National Scholarships awarded in 2020 by Dixie Youth Baseball.
Tyler is graduating from Center High School and plans on attending Texas A&M University.
Dixie Youth Baseball awarded 100 National Scholarships in 2020 and Texas Dixie Youth Baseball awarded 10 State Scholarships for $1,000.
May 19, 2020 - David Schmitt is on the move after leading the Shelbyville Dragons to three straight state tournaments and an outright title in the 2018-19 season.
This past season, Shelbyville was given a special trophy for making it to state but not getting to play due to COVID-19 causing the cancelation of the season.
Schmitt will be the new athletic director and boys head basketball coach for Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill. The Red Devils are coming off of an 18-14 season.
Schmitt believes the timing is right and it is a very similar situation he had at Shelbyville when he arrived. In his four years at Shelbyville, the Dragons never lost a home game, going 40-0 at home. He also recently passed the 600-win plateau with his total wins being at 608 as he prepares to enter next season with a new team.
April 21, 2020 - Organizers of the annual Center Broadcasting Co./Shelby County Bass Anglers’ Take a Kid Fishing Bream Tournament, that was scheduled for May 9, announced this week, the event has been cancelled, with no plans to re-schedule this year.
Tournament director Lori Alvis says in light of the recent COVID-19 social distancing, and orders from the Sabine River Authority, the 42nd kid’s fishing tourney will not take place on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend.
“Safety of the children, parents, event organizers, and the general public is our first concern,” Ms. Alvis said. “We regret to make the decision to cancel but feel it’s best for all involved.”
Ms. Alvis said she and the bass anglers had discussed the possibility of rescheduling for June, but with the likelihood of warmer weather conditions placing a possible strain on the kids & parents, in addition to trying to catch bream in deeper water, it just wasn’t practical this year.
She acknowledged appreciation to all that had worked to put the tourney together, along with sponsors and volunteers.
“We’re already planning for next year and hope to make it one of the best fishing tourneys we’ve ever had,” Ms. Alvis noted.
The Center Broadcasting Co./Shelby County Bass Angler’s Take a Kid Fishing Tournament Bream Tournament is the largest children’s only fishing event in deep east Texas and western Louisiana. The free tourney is for kids, ages 3 to 15 and draws a field of around 500 children each year. Every child receives a rod & reel, hot dog, cold drinks and other goodies. In addition, trophies are awarded in three-separate age groups for largest fish, heaviest stringer by weight and even smallest fish by length.
Center Broadcasting Co. stations, KQBB 100.5, KDET 930 AM, and KXXE 92.5 FM, along with a hand-full of volunteers put the original tournament together in 1978. The Shelby County Bass Anglers became co-host in recent years, adding a professional fishing atmosphere to the overall tournament, including the very important weigh-in. The anglers also stage a casting competition for all kids.

March 12, 2020 - Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity are 13-1 on the season and 2-0 in district with 2 shutout wins against Douglass and Cushing.
Chloee Throws Shutout As Joaquin Lady Rams Defeats Cushing
Chloee Mason had all the right stuff on Tuesday for Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity, allowing zero runs and besting Cushing by a score of 10-0. They secured the victory thanks to six runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Ebbie McCann and Mason, a home run by Madison Baker, and an error on a ball put in play by Kennedy Stanley.
Mason led the Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity to victory in the circle. She lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out eight.
Joaquin socked one home run on the day when Baker went deep in the second inning and the team totaled 11 hits. Mason, Maddisyn Cheatwood, and Jayden Bass each had multiple hits for Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity. Bass, Cheatwood, and Mason all had two hits to lead the Lady Rams Varsity and didn't commit a single error in the field. McCann had the most chances in the field with eight.
Pitching By Chloee Shuts Out Douglass, Lady Rams Varsity Takes The Win
Chloee Mason threw a shutout to lead Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity past Douglass 13-0 on Tuesday and secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fourth inning. She lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one.
The big inning was thanks to walks by Kennedy Stanley and Ebbie McCann, singles by Chrislyn Pena and Kalie Brooks, a groundout by Maddisyn Cheatwood, and an error on a ball put in play by Mason.
In the first inning, the Lady Rams got their offense started. Stanley's sac fly scored one run for Joaquin.
The team tallied seven runs in the fourth inning and the batters contributing to the big inning included Stanley, Mason, Pena, Brooks, Cheatwood, and McCann, all knocking in runs in the inning.
One bright spot for Douglass was a single by Harlee in the third inning.
The Lady Rams had nine hits in the game. Brooks and McCann all had multiple hits. Brooks led Joaquin with three hits in four at bats. The team tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Madison Baker led the way with two.

Friday, March 6, 2020 at Bryan High School –
The Tenaha Tigers varsity basketball team’s season came to an end when they fell by a 67-55 score to the Grapeland Sandies. The Tiger’s overall record finished at 27-9.
The game was close early. Tenaha held a narrow 11-9 lead midway through the first period and the game was tied 19-19 at the conclusion of the first stanza. At halftime Grapeland led 38-35.
The third quarter saw the Sandies fight to hold a 3-point advantage at 54-51 when the buzzer sounded. Grapeland outpaced Tenaha 13-4 in the final period to earn the win. Mike Hogg Jr. led scoring for Tenaha with 23 points.
Grapeland went on to face the Shelbyville Dragons on Saturday where SHS was able to take the Region III Finals win by a 72-65 score.
The Dragons (37-3) will square off with Gruver (17-4) at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020. Martin's Mill and San Saba will play in the other semifinal at 8:30 a.m. The winners of these contest will face off in the championship matchup on Saturday.

Bryan High School’s Viking Gymnasium, Saturday, March 7, 2020 -
On Friday the Shelbyville Dragons took a 74-61 win over Crawford High School during the Region III-2A semifinals. The Dragons (36-3) continued on Saturday and beat the Grapeland Sandies by a 72-65 score to move on to the Texas State UIL Basketball Tournament next Thursday through Saturday at the San Antonio Alamodome.
Jay Buckley and Jordan Boykins each scored 24 points apiece in Friday’s game with the Crawford Pirates (25-7). The end of the first quarter saw Shelbyville holding a 17-13 advantage over the Pirates. By halftime SHS had pulled away slightly and grew their lead to 40-25.
By the end of the third period the Dragons led 62-37 on their way to cruising to the 74-61 win.
On Saturday the Dragons faced the Grapeland Sandies (34-2) who had beaten the Tenaha Tigers by an 83-67 score on Friday. Shelbyville downed Grapeland, 72-67, to advance to this week's Conference 2A state tournament. The Dragons (37-3) will square off with Gruver (25-3) at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020. Martin's Mill and San Saba will play in the other semifinal at 8:30 a.m. The winners of these contest will face off in the championship matchup on Saturday.

March 4, 2020 - Self Defense America attended the Louisiana Governor's Games in Shreveport, LA on February 29, 2020 in the Shreveport Convention Center. Ten students went and competed to test their skills. Everyone worked real hard and came back with a total of five 1st place trophies and numerous medals. The event had several categories which were: Forms (Kata), Kumate (Sparring), Weapons, Chanbara (sword fighting) and Grappling.

March 4, 2020 - The Tigers advance to the Region 3 AA Tournament to be held March 6th and 7th in Bryan, TX. The Tenaha Tigers will take on the Grapeland Sandies, Friday, March 6th, at 6pm. The Tigers will be the visiting team. Winner advances to Game 3 to be held on Saturday, March 7th at 1:00pm.
Tenaha ISD will release at 11:30 am on Friday to allow for travel time.
Fan Parking Friday and Saturday:
Games will be played at Bryan High School, Viking Gym located at 3450 Campus Drive, Bryan, TX 77802. Parking is available in multiple parking lots around the gym. Please note that there will also be a baseball tournament and soccer games hosted at same location on Friday. There should be plenty of parking but fans may have to walk from nearby parking lot to the gym. DO NOT PARK IN THE WAL-MART PARKING LOT. THEY WILL TOW YOUR VEHICLE!
Ticket prices and information:
NO PASSES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR REGIONAL TOURNAMENT! Cash only, no checks or credit cards are accepted. Ticket sales begin at 5pm on Friday and 12pm on Saturday. Ticket prices will be the same for both Friday and Saturday $8 for adults and $5 for students.
Please note that signs will not be permitted within arena. Signs will not be permitted in stands or hung from railings.
Fan Bus Information:
A Fan Bus will be traveling to the game on Friday and Saturday (if we win*). Call Regina Tovar at 936-248-5000 EXT. 501 for Fan bus information. Tickets for fan bus are $10 on a first come first serve basis. (44 seats) Game admission is NOT included. You will buy a game ticket at the door. The Fan Bus will be departing from the Tiger Gym Parking lot at 1:00 pm with a scheduled stop at Bucee’s. The fan bus will be returning immediately after the game.
*If Tigers win they will play Saturday at 1:00 pm. A fan bus will be provided. Tickets for fan bus Saturday will be $10 on a first come first serve basis as you board the bus. Game admission is NOT included. You will buy a game ticket at the door. The bus will depart from the Tiger Gym parking lot at 8:00 am with a scheduled stop at Bucee’s. The bus will return to Tenaha immediately after the game. ALL STUDENTS/CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT. STUDENTS GRADES 9-12 MAY RIDE FAN BUS WITHOUT AN ADULT.
