May 27, 2026 - Work will occur in all nine district counties
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Lufkin District will begin sealcoating numerous roads throughout all nine counties next month as weather permits.
Barricades have been and are being set, with work expected to get underway on Tuesday, June 2. In total, 146.2 miles of pavement on 26 district roads will be treated.

May 15, 2026 - The Texas Department of Transportation’s annual Click it or Ticket campaign has begun. Increased enforcement will occur from Monday, May 18, through Sunday, May 31.
Studies show 1 in 10 Texans do not take the simple step of buckling up — that’s more than 3 million people. Law enforcement will be increasing during this period, increasingly watching out for people not wearing their seat belt.

Texas Teens Urged to Take the Pledge to Always Buckle Up
February 18, 2026 – Skipping seat belts isn’t a flex—it’s a deadly risk. The new “Saved by the Belt” competition challenges Texas teens to wear a seat belt every seat, every ride.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the University Interscholastic League (UIL) are calling on high school students to pledge to buckle up every time they get in a vehicle, and always drive like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe.
TxDOT crews will mill and inlay Bear Drive/SS 470 on Monday, Feb. 9 and on US 59 north of Bear Drive on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Use caution in the area and give workers and equipment extra room.
January 20, 2026 - The Lufkin District of the Texas Department of Transportation will begin pre-treating roadway surfaces and bridges ahead of anticipated winter weather that could impact travel conditions.
September 04, 2025 – A project to improve drainage and replace aging infrastructure at eight locations in the Lufkin District will get underway next week.
Frisco, Texas-based contractor Icos Management, LLC. will replace eight culverts in seven counties. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be completed by later winter or early spring 2026.
The replacements will be done one at a time. Traffic control will be implemented at each site before the work begins.
