September 04, 2025 – A project to improve drainage and replace aging infrastructure at eight locations in the Lufkin District will get underway next week.
Frisco, Texas-based contractor Icos Management, LLC. will replace eight culverts in seven counties. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be completed by later winter or early spring 2026.
The replacements will be done one at a time. Traffic control will be implemented at each site before the work begins.

August 14, 2025 – Whether it’s coming home from the pool or a BBQ, summer fun can end quickly with just one bad decision. Every 23 minutes there’s a crash involving a driver under the influence of alcohol. That’s more than 60 crashes a day and adds up to a lifetime of pain for families who lost loved ones.
Funding awarded to public transit programs across Texas
August 5, 2025 – The Texas Transportation Commission awarded $96 million in combined state and federal funding to enhance transit programs serving both rural and urban communities across Texas.
The funding will go to transit agencies across the state, including in the Lufkin District area. A full breakdown of the funding can be found on txdot.gov.
Safety tips for driving in school zones and around buses.
August 4, 2025 – As children across the state gather school supplies, say goodbye to summer and prepare for a new year of classes, Texas drivers are also getting ready for school traffic to return. That’s why the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is sharing driving tips to help keep kids safe in school zones and around school buses. By treating children, bus drivers and each other with kindness and respect, we can prevent crashes.
February 14, 2025 – Crews are scheduled to begin Monday, February 17, to pre-treat major roadways through the Lufkin District, with maintenance crews beginning shift work to monitor the roadways through Tuesday night.
A brine treatment discourages precipitation from freezing and sticking to pavement, and will be applied to US 59 and other major roadways, major structures, bridges, and overpasses.
January 17, 2025 - Crews are scheduled to begin today to pre-treat US 59 through the Lufkin District, and will continue with pre-treatment on major roads, overpasses, and bridges Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, if needed.
Crews will begin working 12-hour shifts on Monday in order to monitor road conditions. The district’s Emergency Operation Center will open on Monday and will remain open throughout the weather event.
January 2, 2025 – Crews are scheduled to begin pre-treatment on area roads and bridges throughout the Lufkin District at 7 am Friday morning, ahead of weekend rainfall that could freeze on the roads Sunday night.
New TxDOT Safety Initiative Taps into the Lone Star Spirit
December 12, 2024 - People in Texas take pride in who they are. From holding the door open for a stranger to lending a helping hand to a neighbor, being a Texan is a way of life. But too many times, drivers leave that Lone Star spirit behind when they get on the road, which can often result in preventable crashes.
November 1, 2024 – Texas Transportation Commissioners on Thursday approved more than $1 billion in new construction projects statewide, with more than $15 million earmarked for the Lufkin District.
Houston County was approved for a $13.1 million construction project that will resurface SL 304 in Crockett from just east of SH 21 to just west of SH 19. Texas Materials Group, Inc., Cedar Park Tx, will serve as contractor. No timeline for completion has been set.
