August 12, 2021 - The Shelbyville Dragons Football team's practice on Thursday was an unconventional form of conditioning. Head Coach Jerred Wallace has a broader approach to football which includes practicing community service with the objective of becoming better people because of football.
Coach Wallace explained the reason for the community service project, "A little bit of what we did today is a community service project - Dragons give back. We are going to come out and support our community. We want the support from them when we are competing in our events. We just want to show our love to the community that we want to be a part and do things that are going to help out in our community."
The team worked together to make Shelbyville look better by collecting an estimated 15 bags of trash from downtown. The coaches state this is a labor they want to continue in the following years as they see this as a part of being part of the community.
August 11, 2021 - Cottonwood Market in Tenaha held a ribbon cutting event Thursday, July 8 with members of the Tenaha Businessman's Club as well as other community representatives to welcome the business to the community.
Amanda Treat, Tenaha City Secretary, welcomed the business on behalf of the City of Tenaha and introduced the owner Kimberly Jones as well as inviting her to talk about her business.
Jones says she is looking forward to meeting all of the people that come by the market. She has spaces available for anyone looking for affordable retail space.
"We've had so many people that were just glad to see this back open," said Jones. "People that used to come here and have missed coming here, so that is exciting for me."

August 9, 2021 - Aurora Concepts is pleased to welcome Mandy Brantley, Family Nurse Practitioner to their Center, Texas office located at 233 Hurst Street.
Mandy has been a Shelby county resident for over 20 years and is excited to be serving the community in which she resides. Many of you probably know Mandy's parents, Jackie and Judy Hilton, who were both educators for Center ISD many years ago.
Mandy graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology. She then attended Panola Junior College and attained her registered nurse license in 2006. Mandy worked as a medical/surgical nurse for many years and wanted to continue her education. She returned to SFASU, attaining her bachelor's degree of nursing in 2013 and her master's degree in 2021.
Mandy is married to Dr. Matthew Brantley and they reside here in Center, Texas with their corgi, Juno.

The Hall of Honor recipient will be recognized during this year's Homecoming festivities that will begin on Friday, September 3rd. August 6, 2021 - The 2021 Socks and Supplies for School Giveaway will be Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 9 am at Lily of the Valley COGIC, C D Williams, Sr. is the Pastor and is located at 620 Greer Street, Center, TX 75935.
August 3, 2021 - The Shelby County Juvenile Probation Department will be giving away backpacks, basic school supplies, and personal hygiene kits on Tuesday and Thursday, August 3rd and 5th between the hours of 10am to 6pm at their office located at 305 Nacogdoches Street in Center.
The supplies were donated to the department by Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG). Students must be enrolled in a school district within Shelby County and have to be in grades 1 through 5.
For further information you may contact their office at 936-598-4587. There are limited supplies and they will be given out on a first come-first serve basis.
July 29, 2021 (Flyer) - It's that time again! The Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center is partnering with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Shelby Savings Bank and Dazzle Me Pink & Blue in this year's annual backpack drive.
Please make all donations by Friday, July 30.
Backpacks and supplies can be dropped off at the Sheriff's Office at any time, Shelby Savings Bank Monday-Friday 8:30-4 or Saturday 8:30-12:30, or at Dazzle Me Pink and Blue Tuesday-Friday 10-6 or Saturday 10-3.

July 22, 2021 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their July meeting this past Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Center, TX. There was a program presented on tips and techniques on how to photograph reflections in preparation for the next month’s challenge.
The theme for the July Challenge was “Long Exposure” and club members really excelled in their challenge photos as shown below.
