May 23, 2018 - The PWPS held their monthly meeting Saturday, May 19, 2018 with a large attendance to hear the very informative workshop on "The Sunny 16 Rule" describing how synchronize the proper settings on your camera for taking outdoor photographs, presented by Janet Windham Hughes.

The May Challenge featured a total of 24 photographs submitted by members for voting and critique on "Black and White". The quality of the pictures was outstanding and showed the talent of all who participated. Afterward, club members went on a photo shoot to the Lily Farm, on Hwy 7 West, Center, Texas, to utilize all the new information they learned in the workshop. Although the heat was gruesome, we helped each other with locating a good specimen to shoot and advice on how to get the best shot, because that is what we do in the PWPS, help you to learn more about photography.

The Piney Woods Photographic Society is meant for camera enthusiasts of all skills and interests. Our goal is to help you become a better photographer and give you a place to meet others who share your passion for photography. We try to create programs and activities with information and instruction for all skill levels in an environment of support and cooperation.

Visitors are welcome to attend our meetings with or without a member.

The PWPS would like to welcome new member Pollene Walker, Center, TX., we know you will be an asset to the club.

A story about One Man, One Brother and One Community!

On November 13, 1964, the small town of Logansport, Louisiana, was changed; never to be the same. The local hero and football quarterback, Kenneth Harvey, was injured making a seemingly routine tackle, but was forever paralyzed from the brain stem contusion injury he received. He would never walk again.

A phenomenal athlete, and a better person, who excelled at basketball, as well as football, would never see the field or court again, except from his wheelchair. But this story did not end with that injury, and it was not just about Kenneth, but all of us.

In 2009, a group of friends, classmates, and coaches honored Kenneth Harvey. Not just about Kenneth, but his family, his coaches, his classmates, and, yes, his community. This film will tell the story of a man who grew up in a small home in Bethel, the son of a couple who endured enough pain and heartbreak that most of us cannot fathom.

It is the hope of the alumni of Logansport High School that you will find in your heart to contribute to see this dream come to fruition. A Kenneth Harvey Special Needs Trust fund has been set up for supplemental benefits needed for Kenneth. In addition, through the leadership of Ben Freeman and the support of an Advisory Planning Team, made up of friends and classmates, GAMECHANGER; The Kenneth Harvey Story, L.L.C. has been established to receive contributions for the making of the documentary.

This is a story that needs to be told, and it needs to be told in Kenneth’s lifetime. Director, Troy LeBlanc, from San Antonio, has been working for more than a year on background material and interviews.

The Rio Theatre in Center, TX will be hosting the premiere film May 18th through May 22nd. We are looking forward to seeing the film touch many lives!

May 16, 2018 - Willard Ira McClelland is a proud 1955 graduate of C. H. Daniels High School and he loved his school, his teachers, and the classmates. Two of them, Mildred Richards Johnson and Baby Lou Gardner, have shared memories of him as a student. As still Center residents, looked upon him as a Brother during their school days and are still friends.

Willard is the brother of Dr. Charles Tatum who has authored many books on Shelby County. Willard recently retired from being a professional barber in town for many years. He probably cut hair on many alumni and their descendants until many of them went bald. Willard lives a dedicated Christian life by deeds of love and mercy. He has helped many of the elderly in the community. He was often seen walking to and from work which was not far from his home.

The Reunion Committee initiated the crowning of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Daniels Alumni in 2013 and Willard was selected for Mr. Daniels that year and received the honors, a crown and a gift card. We salute him for Keeping the Legacy Alive.
