Barnett Announces Candidacy for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3

December 2, 2019 - My name is Billy Barnett and I would like to announce my candidacy for Shelby County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace.

I was raised in Shelby County and have been here most of my life. I am a 1987 graduate of Center High School. My wife, Marsha Ann, is the Social Media Editor for the East Texas Press and co-owner of Grassroots & Three Piece Suits Media Productions. We have two adult sons, who both attended JISD, and two grandkids. Marsha and I are active members at First Baptist Church of Tenaha. I was a board member for HOPE Medical, a non-profit health organization, for over 4 years. Being a board member taught me a lot about the different laws concerning non-profits. My wife and I also owned a successful daycare for over 10 years. I oversaw making sure we were up to date on our records and kept up with the laws and regulations pertaining to our business.

I have combined experience of over 10 years as a volunteer fireman for Center VFD and Joaquin VFD. As a volunteer fireman, I have worked wrecks and observed numerous inquests. I am trained in CPR, First Aid, and stay calm in chaotic situations. I am fair and can remain unbiased and make decisions based on facts. I believe my calm disposition, belief in a person’s right to privacy, and fairness will help with my duties as Justice of the Peace. I will be able to perform my duties as Justice of the Peace 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I believe that part of my duties as JP is to be involved in supporting our commUNITY. For several years, Marsha and I have volunteered at different events and do all we can to help others. As JP, I will represent Precinct 3 in an honorable, supportive way. My duties as JP will go beyond setting bonds and overseeing small claims cases. I will work side by side with others to make Precinct 3 an even better place to live and I will work with other elected Shelby County officials to help bring unity to our great county. I would be honored to serve Shelby County as JP 3 and encourage everyone to get out and vote on March 3, 2020.
