Benefit Bake Sale for Young Family

January 27, 2020 - A benefit bake sale to help the Young Family is set for Friday, January 31st, at Napa on Hurst Street in Center from 9am to 1pm. If it rains the bake sale may move to Raymond Motor Company on San Augustine Street. Miranda (McSwain) and Corey Young recently gave birth to Layton who is having medical complications.

Here is their story, from Miranda Young:

"New Year’s Eve I went into labor and had to have an emergency c-section. My due date was February 6th but we made it to 34 weeks and 6 days. Once Layton was in the NICU they ran test on him because he was premature. The doctors discovered he didn’t have any white blood cells so they wanted to transfer him to a hospital that could properly take care of him. We discussed where we would want to go with him and decided on Texas Childrens in the Woodlands. The team of doctors in the Woodlands discovered he has neonatal alloimmune neutropenia. Basically what happened is the baby received antibodies from Cory that my body didn’t have and saw them as something foreign and attacked them. The doctors have given him a medicine called gsf which is supposed to help build his neutrophil cells. So far they have come up a little. Best case scenario it could take 30 days to fix itself but they have seen it take a little longer. With his cells being so low he doesn’t have much of an immune system so we will have to treat him like a cancer patient. Once Layton is finally released to go home we will have to travel back to the hospital once a week for a few weeks to check his neutrophil cells. All proceeds will go towards medical expenses and gas for the trips down there."
