David’s Daily Devotion for Apr. 17

April 17, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, April 17.

Do you believe in coincidences? I'm not sure that I do. Sometimes I think that everything happens for a reason, and that seemingly unconnected events are actually connected. I had a moment like that a couple of days ago.

Our church was hosting a senior adult community luncheon. It happens every month and it's a great time of food and fellowship. Our new young pastor had planned to attend but had to take his wife to the doctor. She's due, any day now, to have a baby boy.

I looked around our Fellowship Hall and noticed the man who would be bringing the program for the meeting, our mayor, whose father was a long-time pastor of our church. And an interesting thought popped into my head. I walked over and asked him, "Were you born while your dad was our pastor?" He replied that he was. And I said "I think you must have been the last baby boy born to a pastor of our church!" He laughed and said that he guessed that that was true.

So, on that morning, when our pastor missed a meeting because he was counting the days till his son was born, the 77-year-old son of another pastor was speaking at that very same meeting. Coincidence? Maybe. Or perhaps it was some kind of cosmic connection. At the very least, it made us all think about the passage of time and about the cycle of life.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
