David’s Daily Devotion for Apr. 18

April 18, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, April 18.

Do you know where the world's biggest church building is? Not surprisingly, it's in Vatican City, that tiny place in the middle of Rome that is the headquarters of the Catholic Church. St. Peter's Basilica (strangely, it's not a cathedral) was designed in the 1400's, before Columbus discovered America. It boasts a dome that rises 448 feet above Rome and contains 227,000 square feet of space. It is the largest church on earth.

And on April 18, 1506, the cornerstone of St. Peter's Basilica was laid. The cornerstone is the most important building block in the foundation of any structure and is typically laid with great pomp and ceremony. The Bible speaks, in several verses, about cornerstones. In Acts 4:11-12, Peter himself, speaking truth to power as he stood in chains before the Jewish leaders of Jerusalem, said "Jesus Christ, the one you builders rejected, has become the Cornerstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven, given to men, by which we must be saved".

And the Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 2:19-22, shares this truth - "You are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the Chief Cornerstone. In Him, the whole building is joined together, and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit".

Meet you back here tomorrow,
