David’s Daily Devotion for April 16

April 16, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Saturday, April 16.

We focus this morning on two very unlikely followers of Jesus. These two were members of the Jewish Sanhedrin - their Supreme Court. They were wealthy and powerful men. They had a lot to lose. And yet, as Jesus was taken down from the cross, they were there. As His disciples were nowhere to be found, Joseph of Arimethea and Nicodemus were there.

Joseph took the body of Jesus a short distance from Golgotha to his own tomb. A personal tomb was a luxury, known only to the rich. He laid Jesus there and wrapped his body in white linen. Nicodemus, who had visited Jesus by night, now came in the daylight, and brought 75 pounds of myrrh and aloe. It was an extravagant gift, worth 200,000 dollars today.

A royal burial. A burial fit for a king. And these two unlikely men risked their reputations, risked their fortunes, risked their lives to show the highest respect to the King of Kings.

And so, on this Saturday, we see Jesus lying in that borrowed tomb, anointed by those costly spices, waiting... for Sunday.

Happy Easter to all our faithful readers.

Meet you back here on Monday,
Bro. David
