David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 22

August 22, 2023 - Good Morning. It's Tuesday, August 22.

Last Friday night, a good friend of mine went on to Glory.  Her name was Dorothy, but everyone called her Dot.  She was 96 years young.  And if we had to find one word to describe her, it would be the word . . . JOY.  She always had a welcoming smile, a twinkle in her eye, even in times of trial and tragedy, even on days of challenge and change.

That's the living definition of joy.  Happiness depends on circumstances, but joy comes from the Lord.  Dot had a friend in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that was the source of her joy.  Nehemiah 8:10 promises us that "the joy of the Lord will be our strength".

One of Dot's favorite songs was about the subject of joy, and I'll sing it this morning at her memorial service.  Here are the lyrics, a picture of my good friend.

I've discovered the way of gladness
I've discovered the way of joy
I've discovered relief from sadness
'Tis a happiness without alloy
I've discovered the fount of blessing
I've discovered the Living Word
''Twas the greatest of all discoveries
When I found Jesus my Lord.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
