David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 23

August 23, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, August 23.

George Bernard Shaw, the famed Irish writer, once said, "England and America are two countries divided by a common language."  Every once in a while, I'll catch a British TV show and between the accents and the vocabulary sometimes it seems like they're speaking another language besides English.

This goes both ways, I guess.  Billy Graham's soloist, George Beverly Shea, sang the song "It Took a Miracle" during a London crusade in the 1950's.  The first line of the chorus is, "It took a miracle to put the stars in place."  The next morning's London newspaper featured a review by an irate reporter who wrote, "How awfully arrogant that Shea would sing 'It took America to put the stars in place!'

John Peterson had the inspiration for this song while he was a pilot in World War II.  He would look down at the beauty below him and then look up at the glorious heavens and become overwhelmed by the power of the Creator.  Then the thought gripped him - the same God who created the miracles of nature had also created a miracle in his heart.

Let the lyrics of Peterson's song remind you of the miracles all around you, and the miracle inside your heart.

My Father is omnipotent, and that you can't deny
A God of might and miracles - 'Tis written in the sky
It took a miracle to put the stars in place
It took a miracle to hang the world in space
But when He saved my soul, cleansed and made me whole
It took a miracle of love and grace!

Meet you back here tomorrow,
