David’s Daily Devotion for Dec. 1

December 1, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Friday, December 1.

We’ve come to another December and, so, this is the Christmas season, right? Well . . . no.  Technically, this is the season of Advent, a period that includes the four Sundays leading to Christmas Day. On the traditional church calendar, the Christmas season begins on December 25 and continues until January 6 - the twelve days of Christmas!

The word advent means “coming”. It is a time of preparation. Preparing our churches, our families, our hearts for the coming of the Christ Child. Our children at First Baptist Center are preparing to present a musical this Sunday. Our adult choir is preparing to sing and ring at next weekend's Journey to Bethlehem community event. Are you preparing? I’m not talking about preparation for a concert. I’m not talking about preparing decorations or gifts. The preparation of the Advent season is something deeper. It‘s described in these words from Isaiah 40:3.

Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

The Christ Child is coming!  Better get ready!

Meet you back here on Monday,

Bro. David
