David’s Daily Devotion for February 23

Good morning!  It’s Thursday, February 23.

Have you been following the story of the Asbury Revival?  On February 8, just 2 weeks ago, a regular chapel service was held at Asbury University, a little college in a small town in Kentucky - a town about the size of Center.  When the service ended, about 20 students remained and continued to pray.  Soon they were joined by others, as word began to spread across campus that something special was happening. Before long the 1500 seat chapel was filled with people worshipping and testifying and praying . . . and this has been going on, pretty much 24/7, for the last two weeks.

Over 50,000 people have traveled to this little town and millions have witnessed this phenomenon on line.  Similar revivals have broken out on scores of other campuses, including Texas schools like Baylor and Texas A & M.  It’s been called a “revival”, an “outpouring, an “awakening”.  The services don’t feature fancy production values or celebrity worship leaders or famous preachers.  It’s just regular people gathering to sing, to testify, and, most of all, to pray.

As we look back at the great revival movements of the past, we see that prayer was always the fuel for those fires.  And we’re reminded today of the quote from the Christian writer, Oswald Chambers - “Prayer is not preparation for the greater work, prayer is the greater work”.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
