David’s Daily Devotion for Mar. 5

March 5, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, March 5.

What's in a name? Even if you're not a pianist, when you hear the name "Steinway", you think "greatness".

On this day in 1853, Heinrich Steinweg (he later changed his name to Henry Steinway) opened a piano factory in New York City - and it's still there today. Over 90% of concert halls and music schools around the world have Steinway pianos. We're blessed to have one at First Baptist Center.

Behind that famous name is a world class instrument. A concert grand Steinway will set you back over 200K, and specialty models go for much more. In 2000, the Steinway that John Lennon used to write his classic "Imagine" went for 1.7 million. Featuring over 12,000 moving parts, and weighing in at over a thousand pounds, a 9-foot Steinway concert grand is made completely by hand and takes over a year to build.

And so, the magical Steinway name is backed up by quality and craftsmanship.  That's what's in a name. This Sunday, at First Baptist Center, we'll be singing a song called "We Speak Jesus".  The name of Jesus isn't a magical name, an incantation like "abracadabra". But His name is backed up by who He is - the Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world. And that's a powerful thing.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
