David’s Daily Devotion for March 15

March 15, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, March 15.

Our pastor is preaching a sermon series called "Desperation". It features stories of Bible characters who, at a desperate moment in their lives, encountered Jesus. We see one of these stories, one of these people, in the 9th chapter of the Gospel of John.

The man that encountered Jesus was blind. Blindness was common in the first century world. There were no eye medicines, no surgical procedures, no corrective lenses - and so there were multitudes of blind people. Many of them were reduced to begging, as was the man in this story.

Jesus restored his sight, and then, predictably, the religious leaders took the opportunity, not to rejoice at the miracle, but to criticize the miracle worker.  The Pharisees asked the man who it was that healed him and he uttered this famous reply, "All I know is that once I was blind, but now I can see."

Those words, no doubt, inspired the hymn writer, John Newton, to write these words.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
