David’s Daily Devotion for March 9

March 9, 2022 - On March 9, 1890, Vyacheslav Molotov was born in Russia. Good luck pronouncing his first name, but I'll bet you didn't have as much trouble with his last name... because of the homemade bomb called the "Molotov cocktail." When the communists came to power in Russia in 1917, Molotov began to rise through the ranks of the new government, finally becoming foreign minister, second only to Joseph Stalin.

In 1939, Russia invaded her neighbor, Finland, and dropped bomb after bomb on civilians. Molotov, who had the power of the Russian press at his disposal, started a propaganda campaign to spread the lie that the planes weren't dropping bombs, but, rather, were dropping care packages of food. The Finns were not amused.

The resourceful people of Finland took to the streets and began to fight the Russians, armed with home-made bombs they called Molotov cocktails ("a drink to go along with the food that he sent us!"). This past week I saw a news report about Ukranian women who were meeting in their kitchens to make Molotov cocktails. History has a way of repeating itself. And oppressed people have a way of rising up against their oppressors.

Praying for Ukraine!

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
