David’s Daily Devotion for May 26

May 26, 2022 - Good Morning. It's Thursday, May 26.

I am so thankful to our local news website - Shelby County Today - for posting these little daily thoughts. It has increased our readership many fold. But we began this ministry two years ago as a daily email, and there are still over a hundred brothers and sisters in Christ who receive it in that way. Those readers know that today's message was a little late in coming. I struggled this morning about what to write, what topic to choose, what tone to take. And I finally was reminded of a verse - a verse about that very struggle.

Yesterday, I began my day at a prayer meeting and ended it that way, too. Each Wednesday at 6am, a group of men from our church and community meet at a local restaurant for fellowship, scripture study, and prayer. Yesterday, of course, the topic of the meeting was the tragic news from Uvalde. And I sensed, in each of those present, a struggle about how to discuss it, how to comprehend it, how to pray about it. Then, last night, our choir met for its mid-week rehearsal and we ended the practice, as we always do, with prayer. And again, I sensed that struggle. Perhaps you struggled yesterday as well - struggled with questions, struggled to understand, struggled to pray.

I wish I could share some concrete answers to our questions and concerns. I cannot. But, in my struggle, I was reminded of a powerful verse in the powerful 8th chapter of Romans. "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words." (Romans 8:26)

. . . with groans too deep for words.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
