David’s Daily Devotion for October 18

October 18, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, October 18.

In yesterday’s devotion I remarked at how the rate of change in the world seems to be accelerating. Here’s another example.

On this day, in 1878, a young inventor started a new company. The goal of his company was to put electricity in every home in America. The young inventor’s name was Thomas Edison. His goal proved to be an incredibly challenging one. Fifty years later less than half of the homes in the U.S. had power. And it wasn’t until the 1960’s that the goal was finally reached - almost a century after Edison made his vow. Change occurred incredibly slowly.

Just over ten years ago, “smart” phones didn’t exist. And now, eight out of every ten people in the world have one. That’s over six billion phones. And it happened in just over a decade. Most people today can’t imagine life without their phone - a phone that didn't exist ten years ago. Change occurred incredibly fast.

Whether time seems to be moving quickly or slowly, we're reminded that God sees time very differently than we do. 2 Peter 3:8-9 reminds us that "with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
