David's Daily Devotion for April 11

April 11, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, April 11.

Here’s one of the most famous phrases from one of the most famous documents in history - 

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Those words, from the Declaration of Independence, came at the beginning of our American journey, and Americans have been actively pursuing happiness ever since. I was reminded yesterday of two “keys” to happiness.

The Senior Adult Choir of my church meets each Monday morning and goes out to sing at area nursing homes. Yesterday we found ourselves in a large meeting room surrounded by people, people of various ethnic groups, people from various religious denominations. But we were unified in purpose, the pursuit of praising God. Those that were able to sing, were singing. Those that were able to raise their hands, were raising their hands. It was a wonderful moment.

And I was reminded of two keys to happiness - focusing our actions on our brothers and sisters in need, and focusing our hearts on our Heavenly Father.

Hebrews 13:16 - Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
