David's Daily Devotion for April 5

April 5, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, April 5.

As I write this on Monday night, we’re under a tornado watch here in Tenaha, Texas. Tornadoes can occur in any month of the year, but become a particularly dangerous threat in April. On a Monday night in April of 1994, a category four tornado touched down in Lancaster, just south of Dallas, where my family lived.

A category four tornado produces winds in excess of 200 miles-per-hour and can do catastrophic damage. In Lancaster that night 525 homes were destroyed, three people were killed, and 80% of the historic town square was leveled. Two short blocks from that square, my wife and two small daughters huddled in the bathroom of our little frame house.

I was at a rehearsal in Fort Worth, 40 miles away, when that storm hit. By the time I reached home, Lancaster was lit up with hundreds of emergency vehicles. But my family was safe. I think about that April night from time to time. I think about how, if that killer tornado had just slightly changed direction, the direction of my future would have been changed forever.

Life is fragile, handle with care. Handle with prayer.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
