David's Daily Devotion for April 6

April 6, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, April 6. We continue today with our series looking at what Jesus was doing each day of Holy Week.

Thursday of Holy Week is sometimes referred to as "Maundy Thursday".  The word maundy is derived from the Latin word maundate from which comes our word mandate or commandment. How does this connect with today? Well, at the Last Supper Jesus said this - "A new commandment I give unto you - love one another.  As I have loved you love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples - if you love one another."

That verse comes out of John 13 and the passage John 13 - 16 records the teaching that Jesus shared with his disciples in the Upper Room that Thursday night. A few years ago we dramatized the Last Supper at our Good Friday service - and every word that our "Jesus" character spoke was from this passage. It includes some of the most famous verses in the Bible. I encourage you to take 30 minutes today to read John 13-16. It will bless your heart.

This is my favorite "Lord's Supper song". Maybe it's one of yours .. .

In remembrance of me, eat this bread.  In remembrance of me, drink this wine.
In remembrance of me, pray for the time when God's own will is done.
Take, eat, and be comforted.  Drink, and remember, too,
That this is my body and precious blood shed for you, shed for you.
In remembrance of me, search for truth, in remembrance of me always love
In remembrance of me, don't look above, but in your heart, look in your heart for God.
Do this in remembrance of me.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
