David's Daily Devotion for December 14

December 14, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, December 14.

Have you ever wondered why God created angels? What is their purpose? How are they different from us? I recommend Billy Graham’s book “Angels”. It answers questions like these and is a fascinating read. He reminds us that, above all else, angels were created to do God’s will. The word angel means “messenger” and they certainly serve that purpose in the Christmas story as they share the good tidings with Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds.

But angels were also created to worship. In Psalm 103:20 we find this command - “Praise the Lord, you Mighty Ones, who do His bidding, who obey His word”. And in Job 38:4-7 we see this beautiful picture - “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth... when the morning stars sang together and the angels shouted for joy”.

And then, finally, there's the doxology, the proclamation of praise, that was delivered by a multitude of angels in Luke 2 -

"Glory to God in the highest!"

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
