David's Daily Devotion for February 17

February 17, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, February 17.

Were you in Texas at this time two years ago?  Well, then you remember the Wacky Winter Weather Week when it never got above freezing, temps went down into the low single digits, and we were walking in a winter wonderland!  Here’s a reprint of a daily devotion from that week.

Our theme this morning is . . . THE WEATHER!  We have 254 counties in Texas and every one of them is under a Winter Weather Warning today.  My daughter's in San Antonio where it's currently 10 degrees.  Here in Center we may see temps as low as 3 tonight (3 degrees!). We're already covered with a blanket of ice and snow, and forecasters predict another storm will blow in Wednesday.  I'm thinking about getting in the car and visiting my other daughter in New York City where it'll be a balmy 50 degrees tomorrow!   It's a topsy-turvy world.

Here's two scriptures that are remarkably similar, even though they're separated by a thousand years.  Psalm 107:28 - He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed.  Matthew 8:26 - He rebuked the wind and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.

Many gospel songs have been inspired by verses like these.  Vernon Charlesworth was an associate of the legendary preacher Charles Spurgeon, the Billy Graham of the 19th century, and in 1880 he wrote one of my favorite gospel hymns -

The raging storms may round me beat, a shelter in a time of storm
We'll never leave our safe retreat, a shelter in a time of storm
Mighty Rock in a weary land, cooling shade on the burning sand

Faithful guide for the pilgrim band, a shelter in a time of storm

What a difference two years makes - next week it'll reach 80 degrees here in Center.  It truly is a topsy-turvy world!

Meet you back here on Monday,

Bro. David
