David's Daily Devotion for January 3

January 3, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, January 3.

This is a time of year when a lot of us are thinking about “time”. How can we use our time more wisely? How can we better organize our time? And then there’s that question that comes to all those of a certain age - How much time do I have left?

In Ecclesiastes 3, we find some famous words about the subject of time. They were written, perhaps, 10 centuries before Bethlehem. They were penned, perhaps, by the king they called Solomon. This passage, which begins with “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven”, was turned into a song called "Turn, Turn, Turn" in the 1950’s by the folksinger Pete Seeger. In 1965, the rock band “The Byrds” turned it into the #1 song in America. The most popular song in the country featured 3000-year-old lyrics from the Bible. Imagine that!

Last Sunday, on the first day of this new year, we featured a song that reminds us of the ups and downs of time. A song that reminds us, in all situations and in all circumstances, to say "Blessed Be the Name of the Lord".

Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name!

Blessed be Your name when I've found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
