David's Daily Devotion for July 10

July 10, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, July 10.

My six-year-old granddaughter is visiting us this week. We started the morning by sitting for a while on the porch. Here's a devotion from three years ago, when she was three.

Today I'm focusing on an essential spiritual doctrine - the doctrine of the Front Porch. I searched the Bible for some scriptural background but came up empty. This was surprising, since it is such an important religious truth.

I haven't always had a porch, but I have one now. A porch is a unique bit of architecture. It's not completely inside, not completely outside. You can sit on your porch and watch the world go by. Neighbors may wave or even approach your porch but must wait for you to grant them permission to join you in your exalted position - upon your porch.

I began the morning in my porch swing, with a cup of coffee. The birds were putting on a show for free, and soon I was joined by a young cat, who pretended not to notice the birds. My granddaughter made it a trio and brought bubbles. A porch is just about the perfect place to blow bubbles. I recalled a similar scene when I sat in a swing with her mother.

Later on, we discussed the spiritual doctrines in "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." But that's a devotion for another day.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
