David's Daily Devotion for July 12

July 12, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, July 12.

Do you think our world is getting better or getting worse? Most people, I'd guess, would say the latter. This opinion would certainly apply to the world of politics. The conflict, the rancor, the bad blood between the political parties definitely seems worse than ever before. Or is it?

On this day, in 1804, the Secretary of the Treasury was shot and killed... by the Vice President of the United States! Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr had a long-standing feud that culminated in a duel. It is said that Hamilton "threw his shot away," firing over Burr's head. Burr, however, took careful aim, and ended Hamilton's life.

So, at least that's not happening in 2022! But as we return to the question of the day - are things getting better or worse? - we turn to Jesus. In Matthew 24, he paints a dark picture of the times leading to the end of time. But, in verse 36, Christ also says, "of that day and of that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven."

And in John 9:4, our Savior gives us this instruction - "As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work."

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
