David's Daily Devotion for July 21

July 21, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Friday, July 21.

Today we complete our series on heaven, with a devotion that's not really about heaven. Confusing? Well, hear me out.

Do you remember how you felt three years ago in the summer of 2020? That was three months into the pandemic shutdown, and it was a time full of questions. How long would it last? What would the new normal be like? Would life ever really be normal again?

The Christian songwriter, Phil Wickham, dealt with all these questions by doing what artists often do - he found an answer in his art. He wrote a song of hope and called it "Hymn of Heaven". But it wasn't really about heaven at all. It was about heaven on earth. Phil's song reminded us that the essence of heaven is eternity in the presence of God. So, he asked a question. If we live our lives in His presence and in His power and in His purpose, couldn't that make our lives here on earth... a kind of heaven?

Something to think about. And something we'll be singing about this Sunday at First Baptist Center, as we sing "Hymn of Heaven."

Meet you back here on Monday,
Bro. David
