David's Daily Devotion for June 14

June 14, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, June 14.

I'm writing today's devotion from New Orleans, the site of this year's Southern Baptist Convention. 13,000 delegates have gathered in the Big Easy to tackle some questions that are far from easy.

I attended my first convention in Dallas in 1985. That year, over 40,000 Baptists met, and it was a tense and often derisive event. As a young minister I left that meeting with a heavy heart. I grew up in a pastor's home, and had sat through more than my share of rough church business meetings, meetings that sometimes featured extremely "un-Christian" behavior.

And now, almost 40 years later, Southern Baptists once again face some tough decisions. I pray that we can disagree without being disagreeable. I hope that we can discuss our beliefs without stooping to demonize those who may believe differently.

Galatians 6:10 - "As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who are of the household of faith."

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
