David's Daily Devotion for March 22

March 22, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, March 22.

Karl Wallenda was born in Germany in 1890 to a circus acrobat family. In 1928 these high-wire performers came to America and "The Flying Wallenda's" soon became one of the top acts under the Big Top. In the 1940's Karl perfected the daring "Seven Man Pyramid", a feat so dangerous that no one else had ever even attempted it. The public stood up and cheered.

Over the years, the family paid a dear price for this fame and fortune. Karl Wallenda lost his sister-in-law, two sons-in-laws, and a nephew to accidents. And his son was left permanently paralyzed after a fall. But still the family act continued. In 1978 a TV movie came out, starring Karl, that told the tale of the many tragedies that had befallen the Wallenda's. A month after the movie premiered - on March 22 - Karl was attempting a "walk" between the towers of two skyscrapers in Puerto Rico. High winds and an improperly strung cable caused him to lose his balance and, at the age of 73, he plunged to his death.

Karl Wallenda was once quoted as saying, "Life is on the wire. Everything else is just waiting." What is the thing that you live for? What is the essence, the foundation, the all-encompassing focus of your life? The apostle Paul answered that question like this, in Philippians 3:7 -

All the things that I once thought were important - now I've thrown them away so that I can put my trust and hope in Christ alone. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord. I have put aside all else, counting it rubbish, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with Him.

Karl Wallenda's life was centered on the wire. Paul's life was centered on Christ.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
