David's Daily Devotion for May 13

May 13, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Friday, May 13.

I teach the Broadcast Sunday School lesson each Sunday at 9am. It goes out to local cable TV and FM radio. And it live streams, as does our 10:15 worship service, on our Facebook site - FBC Center, Texas - and on our website - fbccenter.org. We would be honored and blessed to have any of our Daily Devotion readers to tune us in.

Right now I'm teaching a six-week series on what Jesus had to say about the end of the world and His second coming. Typically, we look to the book of Revelation for that kind of thing, but in Matthew 24 Jesus has much to say on the subject. Check it out.

Perhaps the most famous verse in this famous passage is Matthew 24:36 - "Of that day and of that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." This scripture warns us against false prophets who claim to know exactly when, where, and what the end times will be.

But the part of that verse that stands out to me is "NOR THE SON". Jesus is saying that, in that moment, even He did not know when He would return. How could this be? Wasn't He God? And doesn't God know everything? Perhaps the answer to this is found in another famous passage, Philippians 2, where we read that Jesus "emptied Himself". Jesus, who was 100% God. Jesus, who was there when the universe was created, chose to give up some of His power. And He did it for you and for me. He did it so that He could become our Redeemer, our Savior. He did it so that He could take our place on the Old Rugged Cross. Greater love hath no man than this...

Think about that today.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
