David's Daily Devotion for May 27

May 27, 2022 = Good Morning! It’s Friday, May 27.

This coming Monday, of course, is Memorial Day. A day set aside each year to remember those men and women in uniform who gave their lives to protect our freedom. Here in Shelby County, Texas there will be a Memorial Day event at 11AM at our Civic Center. I’ll be sharing some patriotic music for the ceremony and invite all our local readers to join us!

One of the songs that will be featured on Monday is titled “In Flanders Fields.” It began as a poem, written in 1915, in memory of a young soldier who died in Flanders (Belgium). The lyrics mention the red poppies that were said to have grown over the graves of the fallen from World War I. Poppies are a flower that thrives in ground that has been disturbed.

For over a century, many in America and across the world, have worn red poppies on Memorial Day - or Remembrance Day, as it’s called in other countries. The red poppy will be part of our community event this Monday... as we pause to remember.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
