David's Daily Devotion for November 10

November 10, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, November 10.

Today’s devotion remembers something that happened on this day, and prepares us for something that will happen tomorrow.

On this day in 1954, the Marine Memorial opened in Washington, just outside of Arlington National Cemetary.  Have you seen it?  If not, then you’ve certainly seen the photograph that inspired it, the photograph of the raising of the Iwo Jima flag.

The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles of World War II.  Over 6,000 marines lost their lives trying to wrest control of that small, volcanic island from the Japanese.  And on February 23, 1945, six marines raised the American flag in victory.

The photograph of that moment has become one of the most iconic photos in history.  Motion picture footage was also shot by Marine Sergeant Ben Genaust, who was killed in action shortly after.  We remember him today, and those six marines, and those six thousand.

And tomorrow, Veteran’s Day, we remember, and honor, all those who have served and protected our country.  I’m sure that there are veterans in your life, in your family, in your church, in your community.  Take a moment tomorrow to say thank you.  Take a moment to remember.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
