David's Daily Devotion for October 12

October 12, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, October 12.

If you are of a certain age, you will well remember the name Nikita Khrushchev. And you will have a mental picture of this Cold War Russian leader famously losing his temper and pounding his shoe on a desk.

It was October 12, 1960, and Khrushchev was at the United Nations in New York. A delegate from a western country was speaking about Russia's abuse of eastern countries (like Ukraine!). The Soviet leader responded by taking off his shoe and repeatedly banging it on his desk. That must be a Russian thing, I guess. At any rate, 63 years later, it is one of the few things most people remember about him, a memory of the day he lost his temper.

We all have moments in our memory that we regret, moments when our temper led us to say or do things that were hurtful. Moments that damaged our reputation. Moments that damaged our relationships. Here are some words from God's Word about temper.

  • Proverbs 16:32 - Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his temper is greater than he who rules a city.
  • James 1:19 - Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
  • Ecclesiastes 7:9 - Be not quick to become angry, for anger lives in the heart of fools.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
