May 4, 2016 - Local Beekeepers James and Cindy Dotson (from Hemphill) and Mike Bordelon (from Huxley), spoke to the Deep East Texas Beekeepers Association about honey made products at their May 3 meeting in San Augustine, Texas.
James and Cindy demonstrated the process of making meade (wine honey), a product which dates back to 7,000 BC in China, and Mike explained how to make cream honey. Afterwards, members were able to sample the meade and cream honey.
The Deep East Texas Beekeepers Association meets the 1st Tuesday of each month (6:00 p.m.) at the Chamber of Commerce in San Augustine. A beekeeping program is presented each month and local beekeepers share information and answer questions about beekeeping.
