Don Jones Announces Run for Justice of the Peace Pct 3

December 9, 2019 - Hi neighbor! I’m Don Jones, of Joaquin Texas, I am announcing my candidacy for Justice of the Peace in Shelby County, Pct. 3. It seems that every time we have an election, there are new folks running who no one knows. So, let me help you get to know me if I may. For those who live on a county road in this great County, in precinct 3, you may have seen me. I have worked for the county road and bridge department for the past four and a half years, mowing right of ways or driving a dump truck. Many of you have waved at me when you drove by me. It is hopeful that you were pleased with the right of way mowing and the repairs done to your road.

My wife and I bought a home here in December 2013 and we moved from Stonewall, Louisiana, where I worked for seven years as the ranger for Norwela Council Boy Scout Camp. My main reason for moving here was that I told my wife, “One day I’m going to repent from moving away from Texas and move back.” We did and it was the best move we have ever made. It is really wonderful to live in a county where the people are friendly, attend church and take civic pride in their community. That is what makes it a really great place to raise families.

My wife and I have been married for 25 years and have a total of eleven grown children, thirty-five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The blessing of having all these children, has helped me learn that being in service to our family and in trying to help them to grow to be good citizens, is very rewarding and important to our community and nation. I have gotten used to being in service to others these many years, through the jobs that I have held, through Scouting and Church callings. This has prompted me in seeking to run for public office as your Justice of the Peace in Pct. 3.

I have 58 years of various job experiences that I believe qualify me with the knowledge and wisdom needed for this elected office.

In dealing with death calls, I delivered caskets to funeral homes. In dealing with government and politics, I worked in the engineering department for the City of Shreveport, Louisiana and the City of Waxahachie, Texas. In working with the public and conducting meetings, I was a Chamber of Commerce executive vice president for Washington County, Texas and was on the Brenham Texas Industrial Development board. In dealing with technology, I started using a Radio Shack TX 1000 computer and one of the first bag phones in the early 90’s. Of course, there have been many upgrades and I have paid for many of them. I know how to use all “Microsoft Office” and have used special programs written for the business that I was working for at the time. I’m a Vietnam Veteran which helps me understand it is important to remember and to help those who have sacrificed to give us this great country. Most important of all, my employment has placed me in a position where I was dealing with people and solving problems daily.

I plan to work with the Shelby County Commissioners and the County Judge, in having an office located in Joaquin or in central location of the precinct 3, so as to better serve the public as your Justice of the Peace.

I will perform the duties of the office by giving good and helpful service, by judging fairly based on the state laws of Texas and using the wisdom God has given me, for I truly believe in these words with all my heart — “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

Be sure to vote on March 3, 2020.

Respectfully yours,
Don Jones
