"Feed My Sheep" Hunger Awareness Campaign

June 4, 2024 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries is a nonprofit organization that has been serving our community for over 27 years. Our mission is to “Feed the Hungry and to Assist the Needy.” Our Motto is “Striving to be the Hands and Heart of Christ.” We have four programs that do that and so much more.

Our Helping Hands Outreach provides emergency food boxes, client assistance with utilities, emergency medical and dental treatment, emergency lodging and many other miscellaneous needs. We have two senior feeding programs that provide meals for senior citizens 60 and older. Our seniors receive five meals a week and a special food box monthly for the ones who need the extra food. We also call our seniors citizens in our feeding programs three times a week to perform a wellness check. The Unique Boutique is our resale shop that helps to fund our different ministries.

The old saying is true, “It takes a village to raise a child” and it is also said that it takes partnerships to help those who are in need.

Statistics show that one in seven adults, not excluding one in five children, are struggling with food insecurity meaning that they do not know where their next meal will come from. 85% of the seniors we serve are surviving on 800.00 or less monthly.

With the rising cost of food and overall inflation we are seeing many more people in need of our help.
June has been deemed Hunger Awareness Month in Shelby County.

We are issuing around 400 food boxes monthly. We have gained 118 new clients since January.

With that being said, we are in need of your help. Due to so many in need and the rising cost of food we are starting a campaign called “Feed My Sheep.”
