First Shelby County Author's Day Set for Feb. 18th (Updated)

February 17, 2023 - The first annual Shelby County Author’s Day to be held at the John D. Windham Civic Center, 146 Express Blvd, Center, Texas 75935, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from the hours of 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The Author’s Day will be well attended by many of the various, talented, local authors in and around Shelby County. Their published works range from thriller/espionage fiction, Christian romance, inspirational, children’s picture books, historical non-fiction, and journalism, written by the following authors who will be at the library sharing their works: Larry Enmon, Lamar Denby, Joann Spano Bush, Charlotte Corbell Ingle, Dan Fleming, Carmen Whitaker, Vanessa Davis, Tiffany Bryant, Neal Murphy, Betty Oglesbee, Regina Brazzel, David Swanzy, Cheryl A. Hardy, Laura Mae Murphy, Rose Deskin, Rosemary Fisher, Terri Lacher, The Light and Champion, and Shelby County Today.

At noon, Mayor David Chadwick, and County Judge Allison Harbison will make an official proclamation of the first Shelby County Author’s Day dedicated to honor and in memory of long time Shelby County resident, Mrs. Portia Gaines. Mrs. Gaines taught English in the Center School district. Upon retirement from the school, she continued to teach classes at Panola College. Throughout over her fifty years of teaching, Mrs. Gaines taught multi-generations of Shelby County students making each feel unique and special to her. She was an avid reader and outstanding member of the community and a generous supporter of the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library.

The authors will have their published works made available or will have information where their books may be sold in bookstores and Amazon. You may also bring previously purchased books for signing by your favorite authors as well. There will also be drawings throughout the morning for copies of books donated by the attending authors.
