In God's Word by Mike Mills, June 27th

June 27, 2017 - I am moved to say a little about by the events of unrest we see happening today in America and how they may relate to the Bible.

In the 2012 Democrat convention a large portion of the delegates actually booed God. That act of disobedience to our Lord sent a chill down my spine, to boo God is chilling and shows much about how America has regressed as a society.

The trend continues today. With the election of President Trump and the recent Republican victories in various states races the hostility increases. The voices get louder and the mood becomes more vicious.

I relate these back to the stoning of Stephen.

Stephen was one of the original seven deacons of the early church, appointed by Jesus’ own apostles to carry out day to day functions of the church; feeding the widows and orphans and also teaching the gospel, helping the apostles by releasing them to preach.

One day Stephen was teaching the Jewish council of the glory of God and giving the history of the Israelite people from Abraham through the journey of Moses.

He rebuked their rejection of the Lord Jesus when he said to them. “You who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.” (Acts 7:53) When he said something they disagreed with they immediately turned on him. Sound familiar?

Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him." (Acts 7:54)

But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.” (Acts 7:57) They no longer listened to his words but screamed out at him and attacked him.

Now, I ask you does this not sound like the things which are happening today in America to anyone who speaks of the Lord, or anyone who disagrees with the philosophy of those who condone and support the booing of God.

Jesus said you are either, of God, or, of the devil. Meaning you either follow God’s wishes and commands or you WILL follow the wishes and commands of the devil.

These actions today are designed to disrupt and ridicule the more traditional side of our society including Christians and the things we must do to try and follow God.

So, as Christians, how do we deal with these hostilities toward our Christians beliefs. We must renew our faith daily. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)

We must hold dear the teachings of our Lord’s Word and follow those teachings with our entire being, each day.

Moses gave the Israelites this example to follow; “what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13) As we strive to follow these directions each day, let us pray earnestly for those who attempt to move our society and our country farther and farther away from the Lord our God. Remember Jesus’ words; “You are either; of God, or of the devil.”

Let us try and turn the hearts of those who are following the wishes of the evil one and bring them to the Lord.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and make his face to shine upon you this day…
