Groundbreaking for Upcoming Portacool Park Commences Expansion Construction to Center Mini Park

CENTER, Texas (July 13, 2016) – The City of Center and officials from Portacool, LLC will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking as the kick-off to construction for the new Portacool Park projected to open later this year.  The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at Center Mini Park at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the intersection of Childs Street, Fair Street, and Malone Drive behind City Hall.

This occasion will commemorate the start of construction activities announced in March.  Berry & Clay of Rusk, Texas, has been selected for construction of the park facilities that will include a quarter-mile walking trail, new restroom facilities, covered pavilion, basketball court and a multi-purpose soccer field.  Additionally, a new park parking lot will be constructed at the end of Malone Drive.  To round out the project, road construction will include widening of Childs Street to accommodate two-way traffic and a dedicated right turn lane to safely accommodate school buses.  (Fair Street will be closed to through traffic upon the reopening of Childs Street.)

“Our company’s roots are steeped in Center, and we look forward to giving back to the city that is home to our work and community family,” says Ben Wulf, CEO of Portacool, LLC, the naming sponsor of the park and funding partner.

“The Council and our friends at Portacool, LLC, desire to create a special place where our families and businesses have a beautiful place to relax and play,” added David Chadwick, Mayor of Center. “We truly could not have made this grand project without their support.”
