Joaquin VFD Reports of Five Incidents; Man Receives Severe Burns

February 5, 2024 - Over the week of January 28 through February 3, the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department responded to five calls. Here’s a summary of the week’s events. 
 
Tuesday at 1:15pm a call came in for a house fire on County Road 3598. The JVFD responded with aid from DeSoto Fire District 1. The fire was contained to one side of the house and was working its way up the inside of the wall to the attic. Firefighters on scene removed parts of the wall and ceiling to get access to the fire and were able to make a stop before it spread to the rest of the house.
 
Thursday at 7:38pm a page was received for a brush fire on FM 3343. The JVFD responded with two brush trucks and were able to contain the fire fairly quickly.
 
Friday had two calls that came in almost simultaneously, with a elderly male having a medical emergency at 4:13pm on Carroll Street and a man who had been burned over most of his body with hot water at a saltwater disposal location at 4:19pm on FM 139. The elderly patient was seen to by Allegiance EMS and the burn patient was seen to by the JVFD med team before EMS arrived to transport him to the baseball field where he could be airlifted. 

Saturday at 5:01pm a call came in for a person having medical trouble related to a recent surgery on County Road 3361. The JVFD med team arrived to assist the patient before Allegiance EMS arrived to transport.
