Rotary Club, Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library Celebrate Renovation with Ribbon Cutting

April 17, 2024 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Ribbon Cutting to celebrate with the Rotary Club of Center the new renovation of the Redditt Room of the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library on Tuesday, April 30th at 12 noon.

The Rotary Club of Center utilized a Rotary District 5910 grant to remove the stage and replace the carpet in the Redditt Room where children activities are often held along with other adult community programs and meetings.

Rotary Club President Steve Waters expressed, “The Rotary Club was excited to make the Redditt room a more pleasant area for kids and adults to enjoy. The old red carpet was worn beyond repair and posed a trip hazard. The Rotary members stepped up by helping to pack away and remove all the books from the room. The Center High School Interact members joined in by helping to pull up all the old red carpet and remove the stage. It was a group effort and conveyed Rotary's motto 'Service Above Self' which is its philosophy of unselfish volunteer service."

The library is an active location in the community where many families bring their kids. It also serves as a resource where adults can come for help with online access for job searching, printing online forms, or simply accessing their email. The library offers so much more than just checking out books and has served Shelby County residents at its present site in Center since 1974.

Tuesday, April 30th also kicks off the Fall Book Sale at the library which runs through Saturday, May 4. The book sale hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 10am to 6pm; Friday, 10am to 5pm; and Saturday, 10am to 2pm. Proceeds benefit the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library and many services they provide. The library is located at 619 Tenaha Street, Center, Texas.

The Rotary Club of Center meets every Tuesday at noon at the John D. Windham Civic Center to enjoy fellowship with one another along with a program. Rotary Club of Center is a part of Rotary International and 'We Are People of Action' - A global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, and leaders volunteering their skills and resources to solve issues and address community needs.
