October 14, 2019 - Greetings friends, neighbors, and my Shelby County community members. My name is Tanner Peace. I reside in Center, Texas with my wife Kristin Peace, my parents Roy and Sharon Peace, my grandparents Monk and Pat Peace and Tommy Haley and Gayla Haley. I am currently employed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office as an Investigator. After careful and thoughtful consideration with my family and many long talks with God, I am so proud and excited to announce that I will be entering the election to be your Sheriff.
As a fifth-generation resident of Shelby County, I possess the strongest sense of pride for our county. I believe that we are home to some of the most kind, dedicated, and faith-filled folks in all of Texas! I am prepared to work hard and do anything I can as your Sheriff to show not just surrounding counties, but the whole great state of Texas that Shelby County is a reputable and distinguished county. As I have dedicated my career to law enforcement, the best way for me to serve you is to be selected as your next Sheriff.
I have had the privilege to work in different divisions in law enforcement. I have served as a city police officer, in Sheriff Departments, and inside the courtroom. My experience allowed me to learn exactly what it takes to see a case through from start to finish. I believe this experience has prepared me to completely and accurately prepare and transfer cases to the District Attorney’s office or the County Attorney’s office for disposition. My experience has prepared me to lead others. To be a great leader, you must be able to listen and understand the needs of your department. I want our Sheriff’s office to be such a highly sought after work place that we have people coming from out of town to apply. I know how the saying goes that each agency or department has its flaws. I don’t want that! I want people to look at our department and have pride in their positions. I want my team, past and present, to look forward to waking up and coming to the best job they have ever had in law enforcement.
I believe that the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is a team! As a team, we will work with all other law enforcement agencies in this county and in this state. We all have the same goal—-protect and serve the people where we live and to earn the trust back that has been lost. I will work closely with other chiefs, department leaders, and elected officials to insure that we are there to help them as they are for us. I believe that so many issues and problems can be solved by all our law enforcement agencies working together and not working against each other.
Finally, as your Sheriff, I will implement training and policies in our jail to insure that your tax dollars are not wasted. I believe that I can reduce costs by negotiating better contracts and better management of our prisoners to reduce the time spent in the Shelby County Jail.
