There's A Computer In That Thing!

November 16, 2021 - I must admit that I am not a computer-savvy person. I grew up during the time that most things were done by hand. Having recently purchased a new Chevrolet Malibu automobile, I knew that it has a computer that practically runs every thing. A simple oil change revealed that there is a tiny computer in the steering wheel that controls the gauges around the area. The oil changing mechanic failed to re-set the computer to show it ready to go for another few thousand miles. I had to take the car back for a lesson on how to re-set everything.

It is no secret that computers have taken over most every aspect of our lives. This event prompted me to think about how the future of computers and human beings might be.

You buy a new comb which has a tiny computer chip in it. Now the comb of the future will do the following: (of course there is a password required)

It tells you your true hair color.
It counts the number of hairs left in your scalp.
It tells you how long the longest hair is.
It tells you when the next shampoo is due.

Suppose you purchase a new toothbrush. There's a computer in that thing. With the correct password, the toothbrush will :

Tell you the number of teeth you have.
Tell you the true color of your teeth.
Tell you the number of fillings in your teeth.
Tell you how many cavities there are.
Tell you the estimated date you will have to get false teeth.

You men purchase a new pocket knife. There's a computer in that thing!
With the correct password the new knife will:

Tell you that you will need a permit from the state to carry a concealed knife with a computer inside.
It will tell you when the blades need to be sharpened.
It will tell you how to carve a turkey.
It will remind you when you have to take the knife to the cutting range in order to qualify for keeping it concealed in your pocket.
It will tell you the nearest knife repair man in the event your knife is damaged.
It will tell you when it is time to oil and sharpen the blade.

I think you get the picture of where our world is headed with computers in every object that we use in our daily routine. Most toys have tiny computers in them, and if you forget the password, you goose is cooked. I have spent hours searching for the password for the different on-line stores from whom I have purchased items. I now have a book of passwords. Now I need a password in order to get into my passwords book. It is truly mind-blowing.

I can get a vision of how things will be in just a few years. A young couple (boy and girl) are in love. She kisses her fellow then says sweetly, “ I love you, John. To prove it I am going to give you all my passwords so you can get into my computer.” Isn't that the sweetest thing...!
