Willis Blackwell Announces Candidacy for Precinct 3 Commissioner

December 17, 2019 - I am Willis Blackwell, currently your Shelby County Sheriff.  Although I have decided to retire from Law Enforcement, I am not ready to retire from service to my community. With that I would like to announce that I am seeking the position of Shelby County Commissioner for Precinct 3. I am humbled and honored to have been your Sheriff for the past 7 years and will continue to work hard for you until the last day of my term December 31, 2020.

Having been a Texas Game Warden in Shelby County for 15 years and then another 10 years with the Sheriff’s Office, I know the roads in Shelby County, more specifically Precinct 3 very well. I have also lived on those county roads. I will make the commitment to you to do my best to keep the road in the best shape possible with a knowledgeable and working road crew. I know that roads are the priority to most citizens and that will be mine as well. However, the Commissioner’s job is much more than road commissioner.

As I have worked with and learned over the past 8 years, decisions made by the Commissioners affect the entire county and how our tax dollars are spent. I will be diligent to meet the needs of the entire county in making prudent decisions, budgetary and otherwise, on the court. I will work closely with the other commissioners as well as all other elected officials.

I know how important it is to have that open communication between the County Judge, Commissioners and Elected Officials. As I have for the past 7 years, I will be available to you 24/7.
