March 4, 2022 - The West Shelby County Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call of a dog trapped in a water well on Wednesday, March 1, 2022. It is believed the dog had been trapped in the well since the previous night.

When the fire rescue personnel arrived at the property of Billy Lofgren off State Highway 7 West, the dog was in the 50 foot deep well clinging to branches and debris in the bottom.

As the rescuers began working to rescue the dog, they were assisted by Jason Burch with Hughes Wrecker Service in trying to get the dog out using a winch line. Firemen on scene utilized a stand by placing it over the well opening. They then used a winch line to help lower the owner down into the well to retrieve his dog.

Once they were both pulled back out to safety the dog was in good condition and only appeared to have received minor scrapes and scratches from the incident.

The owner was visibly pleased to have his dog safely back and the dog was excited to once again have its freedom.
